Hello my darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, and guess where I am today? That's right, Dudley! Yes, you heard me right, folks, I've journeyed from the rolling hills of Derbyshire (and Iām hoping not too much dust got on my tutu, lol) to this bustling town in the West Midlands.
You know me, I adore exploring the hidden gems of Britain. There's something so exciting about hopping on a train, a carriage (though it's hard to find one these days!), or even a trusty steed to discover new places. I just had to visit Dudley, it's where the iconic Dudley Castle sits! Now, you know I'm not just here for a photo op with the castle, oh no, Iām on the hunt for all things dance-related in this charming town.
And trust me, the pink flamingo within me is in full bloom. Dudley, with its historical heart, buzzing market squares and, well, a lovely old castle, is right up my alley!
But before we get lost in the historical charm, let's talk tutus! This blog post isnāt complete without a fabulous tutu moment, so here goes: Iāve gone for a big, bold, and utterly glorious tulle tutu in a deep, blush pink that matches my latest obsession (more on that later). Think vintage Hollywood glamour mixed with the carefree whimsy of a ballerina.
Honestly, you wouldn't believe how many people have stopped to ask me about my outfit! From sweet little girls squealing with delight to grandmothers reminiscing about their childhood ballet dreams, it truly warms my heart to see how much my outfit sparks joy in others. It reminds me of why I do this: to share the magic of ballet and spread a little pink happiness.
And talking about spreading magic, my adventures in Dudley didnāt stop there!
Ballet bliss!
Did you know that Dudley actually boasts its very own ballet school? Imagine my excitement! I couldn't resist stepping in for a quick class. Now, I know what you're thinking - what's a tutu-clad ballerina like me doing at a local ballet class? Well, you'd be surprised how much I learn by observing and sometimes even joining in! It was incredible to see these passionate dancers of all ages, learning the graceful movements and finding their own personal expression in every pirouette and pliĆ©. I even learned a few new stretches that Iām going to add to my routine. (And you all know I like to be flexible, not just in my body, but in life as well, lol!).
More than balletā¦
Of course, I wouldn't be true to my adventurous spirit if I hadn't gone beyond the dance floor. This morning I headed to Dudley Zoo & Castle, the historic heart of the town. The air was fresh, the castle walls impressive, and oh, the animals! Let me tell you, there's nothing more enchanting than watching animals roam freely in their natural habitats. There was even a cheeky little red squirrel, practically wearing its own tiny ballet costume in all the way it scurried across the branches, right? (Sorry, had to add a bit of ballerina into that, haha!)
Now, it's lunchtime! After that gorgeous stroll through Dudley Zoo & Castle (I loved that the lions seemed to be posing for my selfies!), my stomach is rumbling. This isn't just any ordinary meal though. Iām off to a truly unique eatery here called āThe Pink Flamingoā. Sounds right up my street, right?! Can you guess the dĆ©cor? š¦©
Now, my lovelies, itās time for me to explore the town even more. Iāve got some fabulous tea rooms on my list, some independent shops, and, I'm dying to try a Dudley-style savoury pie!
Iām hoping to catch a little street performance later today, if theyāre anything like the talent Iāve already seen at Dudley's local theatre (they had a production of "The Nutcracker", with the most wonderful pink tutu I've seen in ages!).
