Hey darlings! Emma here, your favourite tutu-loving ballerina, writing to you from the vibrant streets of Southall, West London! It's a bit of a change from my usual Derbyshire countryside rambles, but I wouldn't trade this urban adventure for anything.
Now, you all know my mantra: life's too short for boring clothes, and what's more fabulous than a pink tutu? (Okay, maybe a pink tutu with matching feather boa, but we'll save that for another post.) Today, though, I'm embracing a bit of a "city slicker" vibe.
Imagine this: me, sashaying down the bustling streets of Southall, a gentle breeze rustling the layers of my pink tutu. Every passerby seems to smile, and even the grumpy old bus driver (who was giving me the side eye the moment I stepped on, bless his cotton socks) seemed to soften a little when he saw my tutu twirl.
Oh, and speaking of twirls! I took a ballet class earlier in a tiny, hidden studio tucked away down a side street. You wouldn't believe it, the other ballerinas were amazing! They made even me feel like a clumsy beginner (which I totally wasn't, obviously!), and their passion for ballet was electric. It’s moments like these, dancing with fellow enthusiasts, that remind me why I love this art form so much.
But it wasn't all pliés and arabesques today. My Southall escapade included some delightful cultural exploration. I wandered through the market, where the sights, smells and sounds were just incredible. The vibrant colours of fresh spices and flowers filled my senses, and I felt a genuine joy at the buzzing energy of this place. You know me, always a sucker for a good market stall, and today I even found myself snapping up a beautiful hand-painted silk scarf to wear on my next big trip to the theatre!
Speaking of theatre, Southall has a few lovely, little, hidden theatres, one even housed in a former library – how charming! Later today, I'm seeing a fabulous dance performance called "A Touch of Tango" which promises a fiery spectacle with passionate dancers. Oh, to tango with a tutu, now that's an image for the ages!
My travels today also involved some adorable wildlife. Did you know there’s a park here, completely tucked away amidst all the hustle and bustle? There, amongst the flowers, I stumbled upon a family of squirrels frolicking in the sunshine. Their little paws scuttling across the branches with such nimble grace made my heart melt. It's funny how you find such beauty even in the most unexpected places.
Now, the truth is, I didn’t reach Southall in a tutu, or on the back of a horse, though those are two of my absolute favourite travel options! Alas, this time, I took the train, and even though the train wasn't quite the romantic journey I imagined, it was actually really fun, filled with fellow adventure seekers just like me, some even wearing pink, non-tutu attire!
Southall is full of surprises. I've only scratched the surface of this charming borough, but already, it feels like it has woven its magic around me. I’m so inspired by this community and its unique mix of cultural vibrancy and bustling energy.
My heart is full. I love meeting new people, exploring new places and spreading my love for ballet wherever I go.
And remember, my darlings, it’s never too late to twirl! So put on your favourite pink tutu (even if it's just in your heart) and get out there and dance your worries away. And don’t forget, join me in spreading the pink tutu magic – tell me all about your adventures on my blog and follow me on social media, we can be pink-tutu buddies!
Stay pink, stay sparkly and keep on dancing!
Much love,
Emma xox
