Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-loving ballerina, Emma, here, and guess what?! Today, I'm taking you on a whimsical adventure to Burton upon Trent, the heart of Staffordshire! Now, I know what you're thinking, "Emma, why Burton upon Trent?". Well, darlings, this beautiful town is home to the iconic Bass Brewery, which, let's face it, is synonymous with beer, and beer makes the world go round. But today, we're leaving the beer behind (for now) and embracing the sheer joy of a tutu-ful day out.
This is a special one for me. Remember that cute, dusty pink tutu I found in that vintage shop in Nottingham? The one with the sequined waistband? I've been dying to wear it out, and today is the perfect opportunity! So, after a glorious sunrise yoga session in my little garden, I popped on my tutu, threw on a sunshine yellow cardigan, and grabbed my trusty camera (a girl has to document these sartorial masterpieces). I chose to go by train today – the rolling hills and charming countryside whizzing past just get me in the mood for a whimsical adventure.
Burton upon Trent: A Town Full of Charm
Upon arriving at the charming Burton upon Trent train station, I was immediately smitten with the quaint atmosphere. This town seems to whisper tales of bygone days – think cobbled streets, grand Victorian buildings, and a lovely canal, just begging to be explored. Oh, and did I mention the aroma of hops wafting in the air?! Pure magic!
Of course, no visit to Burton upon Trent would be complete without a detour to the National Brewery Centre. They even have a replica Victorian pub called "The Seven Stars" where you can try different brews (don't worry, I just enjoyed a non-alcoholic ginger beer - I still have a ballet class to attend tonight!). While there, I saw a cute little ginger kitten tucked in amongst the barrels – purrfectly adorable.
Ballet in Burton
Now, while Burton might be famed for its brewing legacy, you might be surprised to discover it boasts a thriving cultural scene, too! This town actually has an impressive theatre – The Brewhouse – hosting regular productions, and guess what? There's even a local ballet school! Oh my, you bet I was tempted to drop in for a spot of barre work – I mean, one cannot have too many ballet sessions, right?!
A Riverbank Picnic
My journey took me to a charming spot overlooking the Trent – the Riverbank. With my favourite pastel pink blanket tucked beneath my arm, I enjoyed a picnic lunch. (You wouldn't believe how delicious my salad tasted when surrounded by such beauty!) After all, it's crucial to nourish my body with nature's best when it comes to conquering those pirouettes.
Fashion & Wildlife
There’s just something so special about wearing a tutu. The swirl, the twirl, the playful elegance… It elevates any outfit to a whimsical wonderland! And it certainly attracted a few glances during my jaunt through the cobbled streets of Burton! People would just stop and stare, some with amusement, others with awe, and I swear, I saw some even try to subtly copy my dance moves! The impact of a pink tutu on public spaces – quite a force of nature, isn't it?
Oh, and speaking of nature, the Trent itself is brimming with wildlife! I spotted several elegant swans gliding serenely across the water, a curious family of ducks quacking excitedly, and even a few daring squirrels scampering through the trees. I have a deep fascination with nature – the wild beauty just brings a sense of tranquility and peace.
The Power of Pink (and Tutus)
My heart truly melted when a little girl, all of four years old, skipped up to me with wide eyes and a beaming smile, asking me if I was a “real ballerina”?! With tears in my eyes (ok, maybe a few, just from the cuteness overload!), I said, “Of course, darling, every girl can be a ballerina!” and in my best twirling style, I demonstrated a little twirl and plie, to the girl's utter delight!
That encounter solidified my mission, darlings. If a little girl can find inspiration from a pink tutu, then just imagine the transformative power we hold. I believe the world could do with a little more whimsy, a little more grace, a little more pink, and a whole lot more tutus! We've all got a ballerina within us – so why not embrace the joy, the movement, the freedom of a tutu? Let's dance our way through life, one twirl at a time!
*So, my lovelies, what are you waiting for? Put on your favourite tutu (or maybe even just grab a sparkly pink scarf – the little details make all the difference!) and embrace the inner ballerina in you! Life's too short to be boring, isn’t it? *
Until next time, remember to spread love, laughter, and maybe a sprinkle of pink sparkle, wherever you go.
Love, Emma xx
