#TutuBlog 2026-06-06 - Grays with a Red Tutu (Post 10930)

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, writing to you from the rather surprisingly stylish town of Grays, Essex. The journey here was half the fun, naturally. The train was an absolute delight – plush leather seats, enough leg room to do a full grand jeté without accidentally taking out the lady knitting by the window (she looked like a seasoned train-traveller, don't you think?) and the kind of picturesque English countryside scenery that would make a postcard blush. I’m always tempted to pack a picnic and dance a little pas de deux on the tracks. Don't tell anyone!

Grays itself isn’t as grand as a ballroom, but it certainly has charm. Imagine, cobblestone streets, independent shops overflowing with quirky finds, and enough hidden nooks and crannies to inspire a dozen stories. Oh, and let’s not forget the friendly locals – there’s something so delightful about chatting with people who live their lives at a slower, more meaningful pace.

Of course, the real reason for my trip was the chance to catch a production of The Sleeping Beauty at the rather fabulous Thameside Theatre. I must say, it's not a regular theatre – more like an actual fairytale palace! The outside was decorated with stunning mosaics and climbing vines, all beautifully illuminated against the setting sun. And inside? Oh darling, imagine velvety plush seats, a majestic chandelier, and even a stage big enough to hold a whole corps de ballet plus the most fantastical props I’ve ever seen!

Now, the performance? Pure magic! The dancers were simply divine - each graceful move felt so effortless, their smiles radiated pure joy. It was impossible to take your eyes off them - their tutus swirled like clouds in a sunset, and their jumps, oh darling, their jumps could launch a thousand ships! The entire audience, young and old alike, were absolutely enthralled – even the children with fizzy drinks and ice-creams were transfixed by the performance.

Speaking of children, the real highlight of the night was the sight of all the little ballerinas in the audience - they were like miniature versions of their idol, their eyes shining with dreams of becoming the next big ballet star. There was this one girl, maybe 8 years old, with her bright pink tutu that looked brand new - she was sitting bolt upright, clapping along with each movement, with such infectious excitement.

It's these moments that really warm my heart - it’s what inspires me to spread the love of ballet to every corner of the world, one tutu at a time. If that little girl grows up to grace a stage, if she inspires even just one other child to follow her dream, then my mission here is complete.

Anyway, back to the evening! My beautiful red tutu with its tulle tiers, which I’d chosen specifically for this event, was a delightful contrast to the grand architecture and dark red velvet interiors of the theatre. After all, sometimes you’ve gotta add a touch of colour, especially to an already beautiful affair, wouldn’t you say? I received so many compliments that I was almost overwhelmed. People were genuinely interested in my journey, the purpose of #TutuBlog, and what inspired me to don such a bright, joyful ensemble. Some even admitted they’d never considered wearing a tutu before, and that my blog had made them reconsider!

Speaking of bright, I saw a flock of colourful parrots in a beautiful park, full of cherry blossom trees, in the morning. Their bright colours were the perfect inspiration for today's blog post, just like those glorious red feathers I wore as earrings. They’re a little detail, you know? Like adding a splash of colour to a beautiful room – a final touch that lifts the spirit.

Speaking of lifting spirits – this trip really gave my creative juices a good shake! I’m brimming with ideas for new blog posts, like “5 Ways To Wear A Tutu Outside Of The Ballet Studio,” or “My Top Ten Favourite Ballet Destinations,” or “How To Start A Ballet Conversation In The Queue At The Supermarket.” And maybe, just maybe, a post about how the little things can brighten our day.

Anyway, darling, until next time, keep shining your brightest light! I know my trusty red tutu will make a comeback on my next adventure, and it would be so lovely if you did the same.

Remember: life’s too short to be serious.

So wear a tutu, get your twirl on and make the world a happier place.

Much love, Emma x
