Hello my lovelies! It's your favourite tutu-wearing, pink-obsessed ballet enthusiast, Emma, back with another exciting blog post! Today, I'm whisking you all away to the lovely town of Hornchurch in Essex. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Emma, why Hornchurch?". Well, dear reader, this journey has a unique and, shall we say, "unconventional" backstory…
As you know, I am a true lover of all things travel - particularly journeys made on train or horseback! (Although, I haven't quite mastered that horseback thing yet. I'm working on it!) This trip, however, was born from a happy accident. Let me explain: I was on a rather spontaneous (and, of course, flawlessly planned) jaunt to Kent to see a theatre production of "Swan Lake" – stunning, by the way! While riding home on the train, I had a glorious moment of completely unexpected inspiration. I'd seen an advert for the Hornchurch Urban District Council's "Dance Your Socks Off" program! And that, my darlings, is where my heart leaped a little (quite literally, my inner ballerina leapt!)
This dance program wasn't just any old class, no no, this was something truly magical. It was an outdoor dance class, held in the charming and verdant Hornchurch Country Park. The moment I read about it, my tutu-wearing self had to be there.
But, before I tell you all about the wonderful "Dance Your Socks Off" class, let me share the little story behind this blog post's title - “A Pink Tutu Adventure!” See, as you know, I never leave home without a tutu, and my absolute favourite is a beautiful pale pink number. However, dear reader, on this trip, I had to pack light! That's right, I had a super-small backpack and, quelle horreur, it wouldn’t even accommodate my beloved tutu! Despair, I know! But not to worry - after much frantic searching in Hornchurch’s charming high street (all the adorable vintage shops!), I found my solution - a very, very cheap, pink, slightly pre-loved tutu, just for the occasion!
Okay, I confess, this "cheap" tutu may have lost some of its tulle-filled glory, it was slightly ripped and a touch faded. But you know what, I didn't care. Because it still twirled! It still made me feel like a ballerina in a ballet-filled fairy tale, and that's what matters most, isn't it? After all, fashion isn't just about designer labels and price tags, it's about how it makes you feel.
And, believe me, my dear readers, this cheaper than cheap pink tutu made me feel fantastic! In fact, I received some compliments on it from fellow dancers, some even said it made me look even more ethereal than usual! (Yes, you heard me right! They thought I looked even more ethereal! I tell you, my darlings, the wonders of a good tutu know no bounds!).
Now, back to "Dance Your Socks Off." Oh my word! It was so much fun! The atmosphere was absolutely incredible. We had so many people from all ages and walks of life, some with more dance experience than others, but all ready to learn and have a blast!
The instructor, a lovely woman called Lily, had such incredible energy! She encouraged us all to embrace our inner ballerinas, move freely and have fun, and everyone did! There was laughter and good vibes everywhere! It was the most refreshing dance experience I’ve had in ages!
We stretched, twirled, and even did a little bit of graceful pirouette practice. Oh, the sheer joy! My cheap pink tutu seemed to be in its element! Even though it might have been "slightly used" before it found its way into my hands, it spun beautifully under the gorgeous sunny skies of Hornchurch Country Park! And I even managed to incorporate a little “tutu twirl” with a friendly little hedgehog (he seemed to like it too!)
I can't say enough how much fun the class was! It really highlighted for me the beauty of a community that celebrates movement, creativity, and having fun! The whole experience was just pure sunshine, and the fact I found a magical (and cheap) tutu just made the day even more perfect! And I’ve got to confess – it’s made me re-evaluate my approach to the whole ‘tut-spotting’ side of ballet life! Who knew you could find hidden gems in a charity shop, in Hornchurch of all places!
I would encourage every single one of you to go to "Dance Your Socks Off" - whether it’s in Hornchurch, or elsewhere - or find your own ‘tutu’ adventure! It's truly a fantastic way to connect with your inner ballerina, get a little exercise, and experience the beauty of nature. And maybe, just maybe, you might even stumble across a fabulous tutu deal yourself!
Speaking of finding treasures - I am off to the Derbyshire countryside for the weekend, I've heard a rumour of a wonderful equestrian event taking place near Bakewell, and the word is there might be a beautiful, brand new pink tutu there waiting for me! I can’t wait!
Remember my lovelies: embrace your inner ballerina, find a beautiful tutu, and keep your toes tapped, your head held high, and always remember to twirl! Don’t forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com tomorrow, for more dance-filled adventures! Love always, Emma. 🩰💖
