#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 15th March 1859! đŸ©°đŸ’–

Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, and welcome back to another delightful edition of #TutuTuesday, post number 1420 for my ever-growing Ballet Tutu History blog! I hope you're all having a splendid week, especially those of you who've been embracing the pink tutu trend – more on that later!

As always, today we're delving into the magical world of ballet tutus, a journey through time to explore the evolution of this most fabulous garment. Today, we're whisked back to the 15th of March, 1859. I've been dancing about on the cobbled streets of Paris this week, a true ballet-lovers paradise! It's so utterly thrilling to be in the city where so many ballerinas grace the stage with their incredible skill and elegance!

On this day, dear readers, something truly significant occurred in the world of ballet: The debut of a brand new ballet, “La Fille du RĂ©giment” at the Théùtre National de l'OpĂ©ra in Paris! Can you believe it? A fresh new ballet! Imagine the excitement in the air! I, of course, dressed up for the occasion, my exquisite pink tulle tutu perfectly mirroring the shimmering lights of the Palais Garnier.

Now, "La Fille du Régiment" wasn't just any ordinary ballet, oh no! It was a ballet with an amazing story, set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars. It showcased incredible acrobatic feats and truly breathtaking choreography, all set to the beautiful music of Gaetano Donizetti. I can practically hear the melodic tunes as I write! The sheer excitement of seeing this ballet, and watching those talented ballerinas leap and twirl in their beautiful tutus, it was truly unforgettable.

But what's even more interesting, darlings, is the fact that the ballet's main character, Marie, is a rather unconventional heroine for her time: She’s a vivacious, independent young woman who bravely follows her own path! How exciting! While most ballerinas of the day were performing in traditional and relatively plain tutus, "La Fille du RĂ©giment" presented an opportunity for some innovative tutu design. Marie's tutu was rather daring and had a flowing, dramatic feel to it. The movement, the emotion, the entire performance was perfectly captured by the dancer's swirling tulle, showcasing the full expression of their artistic ability.

I must say, seeing those delicate tulle layers twirling on stage in all their glory was just divine! It made me dream of all the creative ways tutus can be used. We might be in 1859, but my fashion sense is definitely forward-thinking. I envision a world where everyone embraces the fabulous power of a tutu, from the bustling streets to grand opera houses.

Speaking of embracing the tutu trend, don't you think that the time is ripe for some fabulous tutus for gentlemen, too? Just imagine how stylish a gentleman could look in a chic, tailored, pink tutu - wouldn't it be absolutely magnificent! My dream is to create a collection of "Tutu Couture" – high fashion garments that capture the playful whimsy and exquisite beauty of the tutu! And, naturally, all designed with a delicious pink hue!

While on my adventures, I've been searching for the perfect inspiration to create this collection. My visit to a Parisian fabric store this week, overflowing with colours and textures, has set my heart ablaze with ideas. Perhaps I'll design a "Parisian Waltz" tutu with exquisite silk blooms, a vibrant, floral motif for my "Springtime Symphony" tutu that embraces the joy of colour, or even a shimmering, iridescent "Celestial Starry" tutu. The possibilities are truly endless!

Of course, to achieve my vision and make Tutu Couture a reality, I must keep travelling, attending ballet performances and soaking up all the latest fashion trends. My trusty pocket watch (it's vintage and has an intricately engraved ballerina on the cover) is already counting down to my next adventure! After Paris, my travel plans include exploring the enchanting ballet scenes in Vienna, Berlin and London! Oh, and don’t forget the delectable fashion boutiques - it's impossible to have one without the other!

I do have to admit, my favourite method of travelling is by train. Imagine sitting in a plush, velvet-lined carriage with the soothing rhythm of the train tracks as my companion. As I journey through breathtaking landscapes and fascinating cities, my mind is abuzz with ideas for my future tutu designs. There is no greater joy than merging my love for travel, fashion and ballet, a divine concoction indeed!

Remember, darlings, every Tuesday is #TutuTuesday. Join me on my exciting adventures and celebrate the enchanting history of the tutu! It’s time for everyone to experience the joy of embracing this exquisite fashion statement!

Let’s make the world a more pink tutu-filled place! ✹💖

Until next Tuesday,

Love,

Emma xx

P.S. I simply can’t resist adding some pictures of my delightful ballet trip! Look at these amazing photos! Just don't mind my pink tulle dress – I just can’t help but accessorise even when time-travelling! 😉 (Emma posts several pictures from her recent Parisian trip: a photo of her by the Eiffel Tower, one with her wearing a sparkly pink tutu inside a grand French cafĂ©, one of her watching a ballet show from a box seat, one of her looking fashionable by the fountain at the Palais Garnier and one of her holding up a pink scarf from a Parisian store)
