Greetings, my darling tutu enthusiasts! Emma here, your ever-so-pink, eternally-twirling blogger, back with another instalment of #TutuTuesday! 🩰
This week, we're travelling back in time to 11th February, 1879, and oh my, what a fascinating journey it's going to be! Let me tell you, tutus are in my blood. It’s a passion that transcends time. And it’s no surprise, darling, because the tutu has a glorious history!
We’re standing in the heart of Paris, the City of Lights. And why not, because nothing shines brighter than the ballets they put on! And if there’s one thing the French are truly fond of, it’s fashion – they truly do love a bit of elegance!
Oh my, what am I rambling on about? Let's get to the point, shall we? We’re here to celebrate a little bit of tutu history – I simply adore telling these stories!
Now, back to the Parisian stage where 1879 is about to take the spotlight! The stage was alive with dancers – graceful and light! The ladies had their tutus of course, made with such delicacy and precision – they twirled like the wings of a fairy! It wasn't quite what we have today, oh no. The tutus of 1879 had an abundance of tulle! I mean, truly layers and layers, which, don’t get me wrong, gave it that heavenly billowing effect. However, we're not talking the simple classic ones like we have today, no, those lovely ballet tutus with layers and layers of tulle. It's much more complex! They had so many layers it gave a sort of 'poofy' and heavy look - a far cry from the streamlined and modern tutus that grace stages today. It was all a little too 'structured,' but in its way, it was just divine! I always adore seeing historical dance outfits, just for the imagination alone, it really gives a peek into what they had available at that time and what inspired their design - after all it's the start of how tutus evolved into the beauty we know today!
It’s funny to think, they didn’t have those bright and bold colors of the modern tutu either! Think of those lush, vibrant, and ever-so-eye-catching pink ones - perfect to accentuate that elegance and grace! Now, those tutus in 1879, they were very delicate, mainly white with intricate embroidery, and you just had to admire them! Even so, I can just imagine how magnificent the women looked on stage in those fluffy beauties. It’s true, no matter the age, the beauty and wonder of the tutu endures! And of course, I’m not just referring to tutus in dance. Oh no, tutu is an attitude. It’s a way of life, you could say. It's the essence of femininity, just like all those pretty girls prancing on stage, so much grace, style, and sophistication – I can't help but think what the ballet stage would be without tutus, can you?
To my lovely readers – you know me so well by now – you're just as big a tutu enthusiast as I am! Now, this isn't just a blog. It's a movement, my darlings, a #pinktuturevolution! Because you see, I believe that every woman deserves to experience the twirling delight of a tutu. It doesn't have to be the ballet stage either! Embrace the twirl!
Right then, I must dash, you know I just adore my daily jaunt to Harrods for some afternoon tea, followed by a peek at all those exquisite fashion houses in Kensington. This is the only way I know how to enjoy a Tuesday, after a delightful day out exploring the streets of Paris and watching their fantastic performances – a treat for the eyes, oh what a delight!
Till next week, my dear friends, keep those tutus twirling!
Love and sequins, Emma 🩰
