Hello, my dearest Tutu-licious friends! ๐ It's your favourite pink-loving ballerina, Emma, back with another captivating #TutuTuesday adventure! This week, we're whisking ourselves back in time to 11th March 1879.
My train journey back to the Victorian era was filled with such excitement! The plush velvet seats and tinkling of teacups made for a rather delightful experience, even though the trains themselves were slower than a ballerina on pointe! But the magic of time travel never ceases to amaze, and I was raring to delve into the history of our beloved tutus.
A World of Fashion and Delicate Dances:
1879 was a glorious year for fashion! Think cascading layers of frills and bows, cinched waists, and beautiful silhouettes. The theatre scene was thriving too, and London's Covent Garden was buzzing with the latest ballets.
As a lover of the theatrical and all things elegant, I was captivated by the dresses of the era. The fashion trend in those days, known as the "Aesthetic Movement," was all about delicate beauty, elegance, and natural forms. You can imagine my joy! ๐ The costumes of the time reflected this with swathes of sheer silk, ruffled sleeves, and flowing lines.
But Where Was Our Tutu Love? ๐ค
Although tutus as we know them today were still being perfected, there were some rather exciting glimpses of our beloved dancewear. Back then, ballet costumes were longer and more form-fitting, but certain ballets showcased glimpses of shorter skirts, suggesting the transition to the modern tutu! Imagine, my dear friends, the anticipation, the thrill of watching the shape and design evolve!
Imagine for a moment the thrill of watching the ballerina float across the stage, her skirts flowing, a delicate vision in pink, showcasing the nascent steps toward the majestic tutu we cherish!
The Magic of a Time Traveler's Eyes
Travelling back in time allows me to appreciate the journey that our tutu has taken. It's not just a piece of clothing, it's a symbol of evolution, creativity, and passion.
To get a deeper insight into this fascinating era, I paid a visit to the ballet archives of the Royal Opera House. They hold an astounding collection of sketches, photographs, and costumes, offering a truly captivating journey through the history of ballet. It was a treasure trove of information, my darling readers, revealing the secrets of dance design and artistic vision throughout the decades.
Tutu Inspiration Everywhere! ๐
As I wandered through the streets of Victorian London, I noticed that the colour pink was becoming increasingly popular for those seeking elegance and sophistication. Now, you know how much I adore the colour pink, don't you? And what's a more perfect match for pink than our beloved tutu? This sparked a light bulb moment in my little head - perhaps, just perhaps, it's a hint that we're in for a pink tutu revival! ๐
It wouldn't be far-fetched at all! There was even a beautiful floral exhibition showcasing exquisite pink blooms! Nature itself seemed to be hinting at the revival of the pink tutu!
A Special Note for My Dear Tutu-Loving Readers:
I know this #TutuTuesday blog has taken you on a grand journey through time, and I hope you enjoyed every minute of it! Remember, as a ballerina and a lover of tutus, it's important to stay curious about the past, and how it continues to inspire our world today. So keep dancing, keep dreaming, and keep wearing pink tutus whenever you can! โจ
Until next Tuesday, dear readers, keep the pink spirit alive!
Your Tutu-Loving Time Traveler, Emma
