Bonjour mes amies! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com, where we celebrate the divine, delightful, and downright dreamy world of tutus! It's #TutuTuesday, which means it's time to travel back through the annals of history, and this week, we're heading back to 1879, a year where tutus were starting to really bloom in their full, fluffy glory!
Whirlwind through Time
Now, darling, you know I'm not one for sticking around the same time period for too long! I adore experiencing all the fashion, the stories, the dance, and of course, the tutus! This week, I've arrived, by way of a very glamorous railway journey, in the heart of the Parisian theatre district! Yes, darlings, Paris, the City of Lights!
Oh, I do love this city! From the grand Parisian boulevards with their stunning shops to the intimate theaters buzzing with artistic energy, it's like a feast for my senses! And don't even get me started on the clothes! Everything from elegant ladies' suits with tiny, delicate hats, to bold masculine jackets with long scarves, it's all simply exquisite.
But what truly captured my attention were the ballets! I managed to catch a performance at the majestic Opéra Garnier itself. The stage, dazzling with gold, red, and a cascade of intricate crystal chandeliers, transported me to another world. The sheer power of the dancers and their swirling, twirling tutus was absolutely mesmerizing.
1879: The Year of The Tulle!
Now, on this very date in 1879, the 15th of April, a young, promising dancer named Emma Livry, with her petite stature and elegant lines, was making her debut in the Ballet du Petit Poucet, choreographed by Charles Lecocq himself.
Imagine! Emma Livry, a ballerina who started in the humblest of schools in La Chapelle-Saint-Denis, gracing the Opéra Garnier stage with her dancing! It's truly a testament to the dedication, skill, and sparkle of ballet. And wouldn't you know, the leading ladies in the ballet donned tutus, their gowns of tulle cascading down like a beautiful summery dream!
This date is also marked by the release of the first commercially produced tulle. Can you imagine, a lightweight and delicate fabric that could capture the breeze, making every twirl, every pirouette look like it's floating on air? It was truly revolutionary, and it only enhanced the majesty of ballet and, of course, the glory of the tutu!
The Dance of the Pink Tutus
Speaking of sparkle, darlings, this trip has got me feeling particularly inspired to spread a little pink throughout Paris! What could be more wonderful than a cascade of fluffy pink tutus dancing through the streets, delighting every soul they encounter?
I mean, honestly, who wouldn't be a bit happier if they were surrounded by a sea of vibrant pink tutus? It’s infectious, a ray of sunshine brightening even the gloomiest of days!
Of course, my dear friends, the world of the tutu isn’t limited to performances and historical events. We can wear our love for the tutu every day!
Imagine strutting through the streets of your town, the gentle sway of the tulle as you move. A tutu isn't just an article of clothing; it’s a reminder that life is meant to be danced, twirled, and enjoyed.
Fashion Fun!
But darling, I don’t just dream about wearing pink tutus all the time! Oh, no! A true tutu-lover like me has an eye for all kinds of gorgeous attire. Today, I discovered a fascinating shop, overflowing with intricate lace and silks. There, I purchased a delightful silk scarf adorned with tiny blue butterflies and, believe me, a touch of pink. (One can never have enough pink!).
Oh, and my darlings, a little insider fashion tip! There is a delightful shop in Paris where the prettiest, most elegant bonnets are available. Perfect for the coiffure and, of course, matching with your favourite tutu, perhaps with a ribbon or flower in a shade of pink!
Remember, darling, we are all queens of our own little kingdoms! We can wear a crown of imagination, dress in whatever delights us, and let our own unique selves sparkle and shine.
Until next #TutuTuesday, keep dancing, keep dreaming, and of course, keep spreading pink!
Lots of love and twirls,
Emma xx
