Hello my darlings! Itās Emma here, your resident pink tutu-wearing time traveller, back for another fabulous #TutuTuesday. This week we're stepping into a time machine and zipping back to February 3rd, 2009. Grab your fluffy tutus, girls, and let's twirl through a bit of ballet history!
(This is post number 9241 in my Ballet Tutu History blog! Can you believe I've written over 9,000 posts? My love for ballet history just grows with each time jump!)
Hold on to your tiaras...we're about to travel to a time when tutus were everywhere!
On this day in 2009, the world was abuzz with excitement for the opening of the Royal Balletās new production of āGiselleā. Itās always exciting seeing the Royal Ballet, especially a classic like "Giselle." And imagine the tutus! Oh, the gorgeous tutus, darling! The dancers looked utterly divine, like fairytale creatures in a magical forest. The air must have been filled with a gentle scent of perfume and the magical whispers of dancing feet.
(Speaking of dancing feet, anyone else get ridiculously excited when the choreography is good? I get so emotional at times! Especially during āGiselle" with all that delicate yet strong footwork and fluttering tulle! My heart goes pitter-patter!).
The year 2009 was also a fabulous year for fashion! It was the dawn of a bright new era for fashion trends. And do you know what was at the centre of it all? Yep, you guessed it, tutus! (Isnāt it brilliant when life works out like that? Tutues and fashion go hand in hand like a ballerina and her pointe shoes!)
You'll never believe what happened on this particular day. While the ballet world was in a tizzy over Giselle, I found myself in *London, watching a phenomenal show by the āBalletBoyz." *
(Fun fact: these gentlemen's dancing is absolutely sensational and the BalletBoyz have toured the globe many times over!)
The stage was a symphony of pink, blue, green and, you guessed it, lots and lots of fluffy, vibrant tutus. A truly mesmerizing performance! I bought an amazing pink sequined tutu that night, a total statement piece, and I swear, it instantly boosted my confidence by at least a dozen pirouettes!
The 2009 ballet season, like every ballet season, was a fabulous whirlwind of exquisite tutus, glorious dances and spectacular shows. I felt a little like Alice, tumbling down a rabbit hole, only this time instead of tea parties, it was about tutus, ballerinas and ballet shoes!
(On another time-travelling note, do you know how incredibly lucky I am to have access to the magic of tutus? And who can say no to a spot of fashion time travel with the promise of stunning vintage tutus at the end?)
I truly believe there is something magical about ballet, and tutus play such a significant part. Even on this day in 2009, the allure of a swirling tutu could transform an ordinary evening into something unforgettable. And letās be honest, how much prettier are they than trousers?!
(And we're not even going to talk about dresses yet! Although they're lovely, I think tutus always win! The tulle is the most glorious thing, don't you agree? Like a big, twirly cloud that floats around your legs like an enchanted mist!)
Itās time for me to pack up my vintage suitcases and return to my Derbyshire home, but please, tell me about your favourite tutu moments from 2009! Share them below and letās reminisce. And remember to join me next week for another #TutuTuesday, where weāll be journeying back in time once more. I have a feeling we're going to be having a great time, my darlings. Until then, happy twirling!
Love, Emma
