#TutuTuesday: A Twirl Through Time! (Post #9243)

Hello my dearest tutu-loving lovelies! It's Emma here, your pink-clad time-traveling guide to all things twirling and tulle! 🩰💖

Welcome back to another edition of #TutuTuesday, where we journey through the dazzling history of the tutu – the ultimate symbol of grace, elegance, and pure joy. Today we’re whizzing back to 17th February 2009! Imagine, the year of the first iPhone app and Lady Gaga’s rise to superstardom! So grab your favourite pink tutu, your teacup of Earl Grey, and settle in for a bit of a time-hop – we’ve got some enchanting tales to share.

Now, as always, my lovely darlings, I found myself at the station today, platform ticket clutched in my hand, a thrill of anticipation running through my toes (oh the joys of traveling by train!), before leaping aboard, tutu twirling merrily as I settled into my compartment. And what better day to embark on a journey through time than Tuesday? It’s #TutuTuesday, you see, and the day my blog takes me to a fascinating point in the tutu’s history.

My trusty Time Travel Tiara transported me right back to 2009, where, amidst the glitter and glam of a theatre production of "Giselle," the legendary ballet set against the enchanting backdrop of a forest in 1840s Germany, a symphony of colours unfolded in the magnificent costumes. It was magical! My, but those tutus were quite the spectacle, billowing and dancing with every plié, jeté, and grand jeté. I could practically feel the excitement of the audience; those tutus were practically a star in their own right!

Speaking of tutus in 2009 – it's quite a delightful time, believe me! I think this year has it all! We saw ballet street performance art rise to incredible heights with incredible works that combined dance, street, theatre and everything else in between! I don’t even think we can think of how incredible the tutus have become for that!

The tutus themselves in 2009 weren’t just a performance feature but they were even more incredibly inspiring with a new emphasis on design. Tutus started to gain a bit of 'edge' if you will, with new shapes and a range of incredible fabrics making appearances that pushed the boundaries of performance and stage craft - it was pretty astounding, really!

As I sashayed my way through 2009, my time-travel ears pricked up! 2009 was the year that fashion took a distinct shift in colour – from those vibrant oranges and yellow shades to the cooler, toned down colours. It felt as if fashion took a more 'grown-up' turn in the colour spectrum. Of course, the classic pink had to stay though - we are, after all, in the tutu business, my lovely readers, and you know what a firm pink advocate I am, right?

Now, remember my aim is to have everyone in the world wearing a pink tutu (what, that's too much?!) - well, the trends of 2009 were really going in the right direction, I feel! That year brought the incredible Ballet Gala and in its wake, some pretty gorgeous and vibrant styles for all our ballet babes to swoon over.

Did you see what I did there? 😉

A Ballet Gala? What a fantastic excuse to get those twirling feet going and get those colourful, flowing tutus out for an incredible evening of dance, entertainment and, of course, fabulous fashion, darlings. There's truly something magic about seeing tutus in their true environment, you know, under those warm stage lights. There's nothing better, really! It’s almost impossible to resist their allure and not let their enchanting colours cast a spell on you. And, let's be honest, every once in a while we all need a bit of 'magic', right?!

Let’s all just say a big yay for ballet, all those wonderful dance-lovers, and, naturally, the absolute magic and captivating effect of tutus! It seems the ballet world and fashion are a magical and colourful combination!

But speaking of colourful, this brings us to the main point of today's #TutuTuesday blog! I am on the hunt for some stunning pink tutu additions to my wardrobe! Any pink tutu suggestions or tips? If you happen to have any pink tutus (the more frills and flounces, the better!) lying around and aren't quite sure what to do with them - you know, you can just send them over! 😉

The search for fabulous pink tutus must go on – I have the feeling I’ll end up going on an impulsive shopping spree in a chic Parisian boutique very soon! The colour pink, you see, makes me very impulsive... who can resist the irresistible appeal of pink? And even better, all my purchases will get a prime spot in the tutu room, along with all the others! (Perhaps I will create a space in this very house – in a gorgeous colour that will match my lovely pink tutus!)

It was time to hop back into my magical Time Travel Tiara and I set my time travelling sights on the future! You never know what magical memories are in store!

Stay twirling, lovelies,

Emma
