#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! - Ballet Tutu History - Post #9391

Hiya lovelies! Emma here, back with another whirl through history! Today’s #TutuTuesday is a bit special – we’re taking a trip back to the magical year of 2011! I can’t believe it's been over a decade, but the memories of this era are still so vibrant, especially in the world of ballet.

You might be surprised to know that 2011 was actually quite a crucial year for our beloved tutu. A few key things were going on back then:

Tutu Trends 2011:

1. The Romantic Return: The ballet world was embracing a resurgence of the Romantic era with its flowing tulle and emphasis on graceful movement. Think of ethereal ballerinas floating across the stage in billowing white tutus - it was truly captivating!

2. The Power of the Podium: Designers like Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, and Chanel were bringing ballet elements, like tutus and flowing fabrics, to high fashion, making tutus trendier than ever before!

3. The Rise of the Ballerina as Icon: The ballet world was brimming with talented dancers. The Royal Ballet was celebrating the incredible artistry of Darcey Bussell, American Ballet Theatre had its dazzling star Misty Copeland grace the stage, and let’s not forget the captivating Natalia Osipova who was becoming an international sensation with her fiery and technically brilliant performances!

But where was Emma in December of 2011? You can find me at the beautiful Sadler's Wells theatre, nestled in the heart of London. It was one of my favourite venues. You could always catch the latest ballet productions and those glorious, glorious tutus!

On the 20th of December 2011, there were some fantastic things going on. I headed to a thrilling performance by the Moscow State Ballet, which showcased the spectacular choreography of ‘The Nutcracker’. It's always a delight, those festive costumes, the magic of Tchaikovsky's score, and those mesmerising leaps and twirls - just perfection!

My Time Travel Tip: Want to go back to 2011 and experience the wonder of ballet as I did? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. My biggest tip?

Travel by train! The railways were alive with vintage charm in 2011 - the carriages were a vision of romantic elegance, and I would often find myself lost in the pages of a book or a captivating ballet novel. It really helps to set the scene.

Why should we celebrate the tutu?

Let's face it, there’s nothing quite like a pink tutu to boost morale! Tutues represent freedom, creativity and a bit of whimsy – and let's be honest, who doesn't love a bit of whimsy?!

Here in Derbyshire, our ballet classes were in full swing, and I was already working on my own ballet routine! It was important to have some self-expression in your life, even when it meant spending hours practising pirouettes!

My love for the tutu and all things ballet, combined with my passion for fashion, fuelled my life as a blogger back then and still fuels me today. In fact, after every trip through time, I've always made sure to snag some unique fashion finds from local shops in whatever era I visited. It’s one of the joys of travelling through time - vintage fashion treasures galore!

Pink Tutus and Adventures!

Whether I'm travelling to the past, present or future, you can bet I'll have my pink tutu on! It’s like my personal passport – a whimsical way to remind everyone that joy and creativity should always be embraced, wherever and whenever we go.

So here’s to embracing your own inner ballerina, wearing a vibrant pink tutu and letting it spark joy in your life!
