Dearest fellow tutu enthusiasts!
Welcome to #TutuTuesday, your weekly dose of all things tutu and ballet, brought to you live from yours truly, Emma, your pink-tutu-loving time-travelling fashionista from Derbyshire, England!
This week marks post number 9397 on the pink-tutu.com website! I'm so thrilled to be sharing this journey of ballet history with all of you, my darling tutu-loving readers.
Today, we're stepping back in time to January 31st, 2012 - just imagine, it was just last year! I was actually in Paris, of course! The city of romance and beautiful, graceful ballet. My love affair with this city goes deeper than my passion for pink tutus – it's like a twirling, swirling ballet of exquisite Parisian fashion, delicious pastries, and a breathtaking view from the Eiffel Tower (perfect for a photo shoot, natch!).
But, before I get lost in the Parisian whirlwind, let’s talk tutus! Now, while 2012 might seem recent to us, the world of ballet fashion has been evolving for centuries. Imagine, in the 1500s, they didn't have our wonderfully elaborate tutus - a far cry from the fabulous fluffy creations we see today. Imagine, a tutu revolution is something that has been in progress for almost 500 years!
Just Think About It
Now, back to 2012! This year was a particularly exciting time in ballet fashion. On this very date, January 31st, a revolutionary new production of Swan Lake debuted at the Paris Opera. It featured, drumroll please, a stunning tutu! And guess what? It was pink! (No surprises there from your beloved Pink Tutu Princess). This shimmering, blush-coloured confection, created by a talented young designer, immediately captivated audiences. It represented a change in how ballet tutus were seen – more colourful, daring, and, dare I say, fun. Remember, ballet is about expressing ourselves, so the tutus are about expressing creativity and personality!
I even saw the show myself! Oh, darling, it was incredible. It was pure magic, like stepping into a fairy tale. The whole ballet world seemed to be abuzz with excitement. You could practically feel the magic swirling around you, like the tulle fabric on that divine pink tutu. My Parisian visit was also brightened with finding some fantastic new pink tutus to add to my wardrobe in all the elegant boutique stores that I saw - I swear that's why I love Paris so much.
I am even looking at making my own ballet tutus! Imagine, each with its unique colour and personality – maybe a tutu in deep burgundy, a bright sunshine yellow or a shimmering sky blue! That's my new aim – design and create bespoke tutus for anyone, everyone who dares to dream! (Or for those who dream in pink, as it's my personal favourite!).
You Don't Have to be a Ballerina
While ballet tutus are certainly beautiful on the stage, there's nothing stopping you from wearing a tutu yourself. Believe me, every girl feels like a ballerina when they slip on a tutu! Don't you? Don't let me down by saying you don’t think so - a pink one, that is. This year I am promoting "Tutu Tuesdays". Put on your best tutu on every Tuesday – be it a delicate pink one or a dazzling bright yellow one – and spread some joy and inspiration with each spin and twirl! (And don’t forget to snap a picture and hashtag #TutuTuesday)! Let's all celebrate this fantastic garment that's both a work of art and an icon of grace!
Now, speaking of grace and beauty, it’s almost time for me to head off to see the next show. Today, I'm going to watch a performance of “Don Quixote” at the Theatre des Champs-Elysées. This iconic production showcases not just exquisite choreography but some of the most magnificent ballet tutus I've ever seen – oh, and the music, just divine! And who knows what sort of exciting new Parisian trends await me - after the show I plan to spend the whole afternoon in a vintage shop for fashion. Just you wait - I shall soon have even more pictures and blogs for you about the delights I have found!
I know some of you readers may say, "But, I'm not from London. Or Paris. Or a ballet world town!" To this I say - who cares! Don't let location limit your dreams. We can all feel like ballerinas in our hearts! Embrace the beauty of a simple tulle skirt, be bold, and express your creativity through fashion! (Especially if that colour happens to be pink.)
This week, I urge you to embrace the magic of ballet, even if just by finding a lovely, elegant tutu to wear. And remember, a tutu is more than just an outfit; it's an attitude. It's a statement about our love of art, dance, and fashion – a statement about ourselves! I can't wait to see all of you shining bright in your fabulous tutus, and feel free to comment below, my dearest tutu enthusiasts!
Until next #TutuTuesday!
Yours always,
Emma
