Tutu Tuesday: #9427 - A Little Trip Back in Time!

Hey tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-wearing blogger, ready to whisk you off on another journey through time, with a whole heap of tutu history. Today's date? August 28th, 2012. Buckle up, buttercup, because we're going to take a trip back to the early days of the 21st century - just a few years before the world really embraced the pink tutu (you know, just before it became the trend).

Let's head on over to the land of tutus - drumroll… New York City! Oh, the glamour and excitement! The city that never sleeps, brimming with dazzling lights and amazing dance performances! It's a tutu paradise, really, and just perfect for a bit of history-snooping!

Right now, in 2012, the world of dance is in the midst of a ballet boom. I've heard whispers about this "New York City Ballet" putting on a fantastic "Balanchine" production! What is "Balanchine", you ask? Apparently, it's a legendary choreographer who changed the face of ballet! Now that's a show I wouldn't want to miss, wouldn't you agree?

The streets are buzzing with ballerinas (including some rocking pink tutus, I hear) on their way to and from classes. Fancy cafes and tea shops are abuzz with whispers of the latest tutu trends - feathers, frills, oh my! Fashion has gone quite a bit mad for the tutu, apparently, incorporating it into everyday wear, which makes me so thrilled.

I love going back in time to see how tutus evolved. Honestly, there's just so much fun in discovering what happened before, especially because back in the early days of tutus, everything was SO grand!

So, imagine the grand old days. There’s a magical aura to seeing ballet costumes at that time.

Fashion is Everything!

Speaking of magic, my own look today? Why, my lovely pink tutu, of course! With some strategically placed feathers and ribbons. A girl needs to make an impression, doesn't she? And let's be honest, a girl just has to love a bit of glamour, even when exploring historical tutus. After all, the most fashionable tutus from the past deserve a beautiful setting, don't they?

Speaking of tutus… You know my dear, even then in 2012 the world hadn't fully caught on to the beauty and majesty of pink. Imagine that! Such a shame really. It's time to go back and get to work - pink tutus for everyone, let’s get this trend going!

But enough about me. Back to the past… Remember the ballet russes I talked about in my last blog post? Well, in 2012, ballet's still holding on to those strong traditions! Imagine, such beauty and elegance on stage - dancers twirling in beautiful costumes, and tutus that could send a ballerina spinning with delight! The tutu has been a constant inspiration for centuries!

You know, the most fantastic thing about visiting past time periods is finding out the fascinating ways ballet tutus have evolved. The early tutus were massive!

Now that’s what I call grand. Can you imagine having to whirl in a dress the size of a wedding gown? It's not exactly easy! Oh, I have a sneaking suspicion they have a tutu that I want to see, it's like something out of a story book and I’m going to go find it...

Oh! I have an amazing idea! Since I am in New York, I should visit this very famous Metropolitan Museum of Art! That's right! Not only does it hold gorgeous paintings and sculptures, but also tutus* that date back to the ballet russe era! And just wait until you hear this – this museum has been known for its collection of stunning period costumes, including ones for dance. * Can you imagine?! I can’t wait to find out more about all those fancy, historical costumes from back in the day, and it just might have a pink tutu or two waiting to be discovered… It’s worth mentioning I do tend to get lost in the beauty and sometimes the museums and the shows get to me a little. But hey who can blame me when there’s so much to see **and do

It’s worth remembering how far fashion, including dance costumes, have evolved in a matter of just a few decades.

Now that I think about it, a pink tutu would definitely feel at home here! Just picture a ballerina dancing her heart out on a stage with one of the grand ballet russes tutus on. The light shimmering on the beautiful pink and dancing through the feathers and layers of the tutu, it’s amazing to imagine, isn't it? Oh my goodness! The colour just must be a huge success at any given time.

Now, let's turn back to today - what's going on in the tutu world right now?

Well, aside from all the fashion and beauty I have been chatting about…

A little side-note: Since it’s August the 28th… this particular date is celebrated as "International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoplesā€ , it’s very important that we give respect to all peoples across the world, in particular, it is especially important for people with the indigenous connection to celebrate.

Now let's wrap up! There's just so much to talk about when it comes to tutus! So much history and such a bright future. You never know what you’re going to discover with a little time-traveling, tutu-filled exploration, do you?

If you are as passionate about ballet tutus as I am then please do share what is going on with the world of tutus in the comments section below.

That’s it for this week, until next Tuesday - have a grand week and try to remember a pink tutu in your life. Remember to wear that pink tutu. Keep the twirling high and spirits bright, you never know when time-travelling is right around the corner.

Until next time,

Emma
