Welcome back to Pink Tutu!
It's me, your resident tutu enthusiast, Emma, coming at you live from, well, wherever my travels have taken me this week. This week, I'm thrilled to be in the vibrant heart of… drumroll …Paris!
Can you even imagine, darling? Paris! It's literally bursting with all things fashion, art, and romance - all my favourite things! Oh, and did I mention it's basically a tutu paradise? The Parisians take their tutus very seriously - think bold colours, daring silhouettes, and exquisite craftsmanship. Oh, the divine designs!
So, grab a cuppa (or a cheeky glass of something bubbly), put on your favourite pink tutu, and get ready to tutuly travel with me back in time, because it's #TutuTuesday!
Today's date is December 7th, 2021, and I'm taking you on a delightful journey to explore the fascinating history of the tutu, my dear friends. Buckle up, because this one is a real whirlwind!
The Very First Tutudance
Okay, picture it: you're a ballerino in 19th-century Paris. It's hot, sticky, and the heavy, flowing dresses you wear? They're a complete disaster! It's like trying to dance in a duvet! So, what does our talented choreographer Marius Petipa do? He's literally chopped those dresses down to their knickers - quite literally! This revolutionised how dancers moved! The new style allowed ballerinas to float and jump, effortlessly showing off their impressive skills.
This new-age brief dancing costume is actually how the tutudance begins! Voila - we've got the first tutudance. That very first tutu was a basic white cotton undergarment with very few layers - so unlike the glamorous beauties you see today!
But darling, wait there's more!
The Tutu Goes Global
This revolutionary design then went worldwide, catching on like wildfire, across the grand ballet theatres of Europe, Russia, and beyond. Now, who could really blame them, right? This new fashion was a real game-changer. Suddenly, ballerinas were a whole lot more graceful and had amazingly fluid movements, thanks to these streamlined costumes. It changed ballet history for ever!
The Tutu Transforms
Then, around the 1940s and 50s, it got even better! We get the Romantic Tutu! A fluffy, multi-layered tulle design that really transformed the tutudance experience! Picture: cascading ruffles, floating skirts, total glamour!
And as we move into the 1960s, ballet became a bit more experimental. You saw new tutus popping up - different designs, bold colours, and sometimes, they weren't even white anymore! Imagine a tutu made of sequins or even silk, now, isn't that simply divine?
Tutudancing Today
The tutudance is as popular today as ever! From classic to modern ballet, it's always in fashion. Ballet studios across the globe are teaching kids, teens, and even adults about the beautiful dance of tutudancing!
And now, I have to talk about tutu fashions... It's simply the most fabulous! In ballet fashion today, tutus are a mix of traditions and new ideas. The styles range from the classic white romantic tutu, right through to experimental, modern styles, sometimes in shocking colours and with incredible detail. Honestly, the creativity in modern ballet fashion is just astonishing.
The Power of Pink
And of course, darling, it's all about pink! For me, pink is simply divine! It's romantic, feminine, and a symbol of pure joy - a celebration of life and of dancing. Wearing a pink tutu gives you a sense of confidence and joy, just like the ballet itself.
Now, let me ask you this - would you wear a pink tutu? Come on, darling, you know you want to! It's like giving a hug to your inner ballerina, and the world needs more of that!
Don't forget to share your tutu thoughts, comments and fabulous photos of yourself on my blog. Tell me your favourite ballet shows and maybe you'll even inspire my next journey!
Until next time, darlings, keep your tutus high and your spirits brighter than a shimmering pink satin tutu!
