Hello my lovelies! Itโs Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, back for another week of ballet history fun! I've just travelled back in time, this week Iโm on the sunny, cobbled streets of Paris. You wouldnโt believe the beautiful shops and cafes around here โ and, oh, the croissants are to die for! ๐ฅ The best part, though, is that Iโm here for the August 26th Paris Ballet Festival โ talk about tutu inspiration! โจ
This week weโre diving into the glorious, whimsical world of the pink tutu, and it all starts with a bit of a giggle! It seems a pink tutu would've been unheard of at the start of ballet as a true artform, a long, long time ago, all those centuries ago! They were very formal, quite stark, even. Think lots of white or ivory with lots of satin and ribbon. Back then a tutu meant showing off a dancerโs legs.
Then, with all the developments, ballet turned into a form of telling stories in movement and that brought in more colours! In the late 1800s, in a very famous performance by the brilliant, beautiful and wonderfully talented ballerina Marie Taglioni, wearing white tulle, well she simply revolutionized ballet and the whole dance world! (More on her another time! ๐). The pink tutu, oh it had to wait its turn, but wait it did, to become what it is today. A delightful and a little bit daring, symbol of passionate femininity and love of life, and dancing of course, the true love of life. ๐ฉฐ ๐
That iconic pink tutu first appeared on a Parisian stage in a 1920s ballet performance that had audiences absolutely enraptured. It was a symbol of something so joyous and vibrant, just like the era itself. ๐ The bright colours and fabulous art deco patterns it was paired with were totally in fashion at the time. It's a truly fabulous time in history to experience. Imagine all those glorious swirling tulle dresses, full of glamour. Pink tutus wouldโve definitely been popular back then - oh, just imagine me prancing around those Parisian streets in a glorious pink tutu and getting endless stares! I would just adore the gossip! ๐
So, how did this symbol of joy become so popular? Well, the secret to the success of pink tutus was really all about that special lightness and playful energy that it projected, a vision of innocence and pure joy โ oh, to be so carefree, dancing under the lights on a stage. What a beautiful thing to be able to express through dance and of course, a pink tutu!
The pink tutu, a little symbol of femininity. And that brings us to the present! Fast forward a few decades, and now we have beautiful pink tutus on stage and on every fashionable girl's wardrobe all over the world! Theyโve become a way for women and girls everywhere to embrace their inner diva. ๐
As for my travels this week in Paris โ itโs absolutely perfect. ๐ Iโve taken a lovely train ride here. Train journeys are so relaxing! And with that delicious baguette, with melted brie, and, of course, a little Parisian rosรฉ, oh it's divine! ๐๐ฅ. Every girl should travel by train sometime, even a glamorous, ballet loving blogger! You can really see the world on those scenic journeys. ๐
But what's the point of being a stylish ballet aficionado without sharing some fab ideas? Here are my top 3 tips for bringing the pink magic of the tutu into your wardrobe! ๐ Pick a pink that reflects your mood: Are you feeling flirty? Then a hot pink will make you look sensational. Do you want to feel chic and pretty? Think soft rose pink. There's a perfect shade for every girl out there! ๐
๐ Tutus are fun โ just embrace that: Pair a pink tutu with some chunky boots for a fab, street-smart style. Or maybe sparkly shoes!
๐ Dance, darling, Dance! Pink tutus are designed for twirling. You know you want to wear your pink tutu around the place just to let it swirl in the wind. A tutu, just for the feeling! โจ
Of course, none of us could do all this if we weren't in love with this beautiful art. Ballet is more than just steps and graceful movements. Itโs passion. It's a way to connect with your deepest self and itโs that joy I hope to inspire with every post. ๐ฅฐ Now I'm off to enjoy the Paris Ballet Festival. Oh the magic. โจ
