Frome: A Tutu-tiful Day Trip (Blog Post #9263)

Hello, darlings! It’s your Pink Tutu Sparkles here, and I’m absolutely bursting with excitement to share my latest adventures with you. As you know, I'm a huge advocate for exploring new places and experiencing all the beauty the world has to offer, and Frome in Somerset has definitely ticked all the right boxes!

Now, you know me, I couldn't possibly just hop on a train without a little bit of flair, so my pink tulle skirt (not quite a tutu, but a fantastic alternative for travel, wouldn't you agree?) and a glittering pink crop top were the order of the day. My dear friend, Millie, was the perfect travel buddy, and together we set off from the Derbyshire countryside on a morning train.

The journey itself was an absolute dream. We sat by the window, marvelling at the rolling hills and picturesque villages whizzing past. It was like being in one of those vintage British travel films, but with a whole lot more glitter, naturally!

As soon as we arrived in Frome, I knew this was a special place. It was filled with a vibrant, artsy energy that resonated with my very core. We strolled through the cobbled streets, taking in the independent shops brimming with handcrafted goods and quirky antiques. I couldn't resist snapping a few photos with a delightfully mismatched teapot in a charming tea shop!

Speaking of shops, a little detour to a charming haberdashery was a must. It was filled to the brim with lace, ribbons, and every colour of fabric imaginable. You could practically hear the tutus begging to be made!

We then stumbled upon Frome’s monthly market. Oh my goodness, you could truly spend an entire day there! Local craftspeople and vendors lined the streets, selling everything from hand-knitted hats to artisanal jams and chutneys. It was an absolute feast for the senses! And let me tell you, my darling readers, I found the most adorable little pair of vintage pink ballet shoes, perfectly distressed to look like a ballerina had worn them to the dance, but I resisted the urge to purchase - I told myself it was just the right size for a souvenir, nothing more!

Of course, no trip to Frome would be complete without experiencing the legendary Frome Independent market. This sprawling market happens every third Sunday of the month and showcases the best of the region’s artisans and creatives. I’m talking handmade ceramics, locally-sourced produce, independent fashion designers – you name it, it was there! I bought a couple of stunning prints by a local artist, which will definitely be gracing the walls of my humble abode (a bit more modest than the ā€œhumble abodeā€ you're likely thinking about!), adding a dash of Frome charm to my already very pink world!

We ended the day with a delightful dinner at a local pub. I felt so very comfortable and at ease in Frome, and it reminded me how truly connected we all are in this fabulous journey called life.

Now, I'll confess, you won’t see any dazzling tutu performances from me in this post (saving those for another time!) but there was an underlying sense of 'performance' all throughout the day. It’s that thing about small-town England, you know – everyone gets to show off their passions and be seen, like a mini stage performance on every street corner! Maybe I was subconsciously picking up some creative energy for my next big show - who knows! But I certainly brought a little 'Pink Tutu Sparkle' to Frome that day, wouldn’t you agree?

Frome has truly stolen a piece of my heart! The friendly locals, the abundance of creative energy, the picturesque charm – I'll definitely be back soon for more. Maybe next time I'll bring along a portable dance floor, just in case my feet get too restless. šŸ˜‰

Remember, darlings, never let anyone tell you that you can't follow your passions, no matter how outlandish or sparkly they may be! Spread the love, embrace the joy, and never be afraid to unleash your inner Tutu Queen. Until next time, stay fabulous!

Tutu-rific Tips For Frome!

For those of you thinking of following in my pink tutu-ed footsteps, here are some of my top tips for experiencing Frome to the fullest:

  • The Market is a must: Be sure to check the market dates, and trust me, there’s something for everyone, including delicious street food (including the famous Frome Market sausages).

  • Be prepared to wander: Frome is best explored at a leisurely pace. Get lost in the winding cobblestone streets and discover hidden gems.

  • *Look for the ā€œSecret Gardenā€: * The little ā€˜Frome Market Garden’ off Catherine Hill is a magical spot, ideal for a cup of tea and a bite to eat amidst lush green foliage.

  • Embrace the independent shops: Frome is overflowing with independent boutiques and shops. Support local businesses and treat yourself to a few special treasures.

  • Look for the creative side of Frome: The town boasts numerous galleries, arts studios, and cultural events. Be sure to catch a performance at the historic Frome Festival.

  • Pink Tutu optional, but highly recommended: While I may have felt a bit underdressed at a pub in Frome with only a tutu skirt on, my heart says, embrace the sparkle! If you find the chance, bring the pink tutu (even for your train ride) - because you never know when you’ll meet a tutu friend.

Until next time,
