Hey darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, reporting live from the delightful town of Darlaston, where the cobblestones glimmer and the tea is always hot. This little corner of the Midlands has definitely won a spot in my sparkly pink heart.
Let me tell you, it was quite the journey! It wouldn’t have been a proper TutuQueen trip without a touch of drama (and maybe a spot of glitter malfunction on the train!), so I naturally hopped on the 12.34 from Derby and arrived in Darlaston just as the sun was dipping low in the sky, casting a rosy glow over the town.
Oh, you know I just had to have a proper Tutu Queen adventure, so I decided to skip the car park and arrive in style, naturally, by horse! I know, it was a bit of a wild ride but totally worth it for the photo op! And don’t even get me started on how much the horses loved my sparkly pink tutu. They were completely enthralled!
Speaking of my pink tutu, darlings, it’s got to be the perfect outfit for Darlaston! The town's like a picture postcard from another era with cobblestone streets and quaint shops, but with a contemporary twist. There’s this fantastic old music hall tucked away on a side street – absolutely dripping in Victorian charm – and of course, I couldn't resist going in for a spot of tea and a cheeky slice of cake. The lovely lady behind the counter, I swear she knew about my blog, darling! She actually asked me about my latest tutus! So I shared all about my favourite sparkly tulle creation with the lovely locals, you know, inspiring them to embrace a bit of pink in their lives.
The highlight of my trip to Darlaston was, without a doubt, the ballet performance at the local theatre. Now, it wasn’t a grand, lavish, London West End show. But it was a breath of fresh air, darling! These talented youngsters, they had so much heart and enthusiasm, you couldn't help but be moved. It just goes to show you that magical things can happen anywhere, you just need to look for them, you know what I mean? Their passion for the art form, it resonated with my soul, and of course, I was immediately on a tutu-inspired cloud nine. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit jealous of those gorgeous costumes. The ballet director actually came up to me afterwards and we had a fantastic chat. I just know I'm going to be working with her soon, designing some new outfits for their next production – it’s going to be pink-tastic!
Speaking of pink-tastic, I have to mention the incredible haberdashery shop I found! It was a hidden gem, stuffed full of beautiful fabrics, lace, sequins, and of course, an aisle devoted entirely to pink! You can bet I indulged myself. I walked out with a new bolt of tulle and enough sequins to sparkle my way through the rest of the year. You bet, darling, you’ll see a new Pink Tutu creation soon – Darlaston, I think I’ll be bringing the colour back into your wardrobe.
After a whirlwind day, it was time to leave the darling little town of Darlaston, but not before I squeezed in a spot of shopping in the cute little independent shops – think artisan crafts, vintage finds, and everything with a local twist. You’ve got to visit the fabulous vintage clothing shop I discovered down an alleyway! A pink tutu-loving goddess lives in each of us and the shops of Darlaston truly celebrated that.
Don't let anyone tell you that a town this size doesn't have a spirit, it just needs a little sparkle to come alive. That’s where Pink Tutu Sparkles steps in, sharing my love of all things pink with the world, one tutu at a time! It’s been a joy and a privilege to get to know this little piece of the West Midlands. It's been magical!
And that’s all from me, darlings, until next time, stay fabulous!
Yours in pink,
Pink Tutu Sparkles

A Little More About Me
For those who are new to my little corner of the internet, Pink Tutu Sparkles, a.k.a. Alex, is a Derbyshire born and bred drag queen with a passion for all things pink, sparkly, and dramatic. By day I’m a scientist, working on the fascinating (and sometimes seriously geeky) world of fabric testing. You'll find me in my lab, putting everything under the microscope and analyzing the latest synthetic fabrics, but don’t let that fool you!
I always had a creative side, and my love of the arts took me straight to the ballet club at university. My pink tutu life began right there – trying on a bright pink tulle creation for a university fundraiser, and boom, I was hooked! You could say that’s how it all began for Pink Tutu Sparkles. It's all about embracing the colour, the drama, the magic and celebrating life's sparkle. I might be a scientist by day, but by night I’m all about bringing the magic of the stage to life and inspiring you to unleash the fabulous!
I love traveling, you know. The world is a stage for me, darling. From the vibrant energy of a London cabaret show to the charming countryside dance halls – it’s all part of the pink-tastic experience. The way I travel is usually a mix of horse and train travel. Sometimes even a spot of glamorous air travel when I'm going further afield! I embrace the quirky, the adventurous and I’m not afraid to make a little statement in a bright pink tutu wherever I go!
Let’s face it, life's too short for boring clothes, wouldn't you agree? That's why Pink Tutu Sparkles is spreading the love for everything sparkly. My aim is to help everyone find their inner fabulous, and show them that they don't have to hide their personality beneath a dull facade! Let’s sparkle together, babes!
