Cambridge Calling! 🩰✨

Hello, darlings! It's your Tutu Queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here with another installment from my whirlwind travels – this time, I'm in the beautiful city of Cambridge! 👑 This post is number 9327, just a tiny snippet in the grand story of my fabulous journey to get everyone wearing pink tutus.

Let me tell you, my journey here was quite the adventure. You see, dear readers, I am a woman of many talents - a drag artist, yes, but also a connoisseur of the finest forms of travel. Trains? Absolutely! (especially the ones with those spacious compartments where you can do your hair). Horses? My word, they're delightful. A gentle clip-clop across the countryside, feeling the wind in my feather boa… what could be better? (Except, perhaps, if I had a tiny, pink tutu-wearing pony… that would just be the most fabulous thing!).

Anyway, back to Cambridge! This historical university city is absolutely enchanting, with its cobbled streets and ancient buildings - not to mention the glorious River Cam. Honestly, it’s practically begging for a photo shoot in a dazzling pink tutu. You can just imagine me striking a pose in front of King’s College Chapel, looking like a sugary-sweet dream!

Cambridge holds a special place in my heart. Not just because of the picturesque backdrop, oh no. It's because this very place holds the secret origin story of Pink Tutu Sparkles!

It all started when I was a wide-eyed, tutu-free, student, studying for a science degree (can you imagine?! I can't). One day, while I was in the university ballet club, they held a fundraiser, and… well… it was fate! They were asking volunteers to try on tutus, to get people to donate! The rest, as they say, is history. The minute I twirled in that delicate, pink, chiffon creation, I knew my destiny! 💫

So, my dear readers, you can see why I had to make a pilgrimage to Cambridge. But you don't have to wait for my next post to get a taste of the magic. Let me take you on a whirlwind tour of my adventures…

Day 1: Ballet & Brunch

I arrived in Cambridge on a crisp, bright morning, and my first stop? The Cambridge School of Ballet. After all, the life of a Tutu Queen isn't complete without a bit of ballet inspiration! The school itself is a beautiful Victorian building with its own dance studio. I actually spent the whole afternoon watching some classes – just magical! It's amazing how ballet can be so fluid and powerful at the same time. The young dancers were truly inspiring - imagine if they wore tutus?! It would be so stunning!

For lunch, I indulged in a delightfully decadent afternoon tea, all dainty sandwiches, scones with clotted cream (and loads of jam, naturally), and oh so many cups of pink champagne tea (pink, naturally). Did I mention I was wearing my pink, crystal-studded tulle tutu? Because I was, and it made me feel like an absolute princess.

Later that evening, I treated myself to a magnificent performance of 'The Sleeping Beauty' at the Cambridge Arts Theatre. It was breathtaking. I had tears in my eyes as I watched those gorgeous ballerinas gracefully flit across the stage. For my final act of the evening? I ventured to a cosy pub, where I had a pint of local ale. A good night, even if I didn't have any cocktails.

Day 2: A Spot of Shopping & The Cam

Morning, everyone! Ready for more adventures? My second day in Cambridge started off with a 'shopping extravaganza!' (Oh my! The best way to start the day). Cambridge has such charming independent boutiques, crammed with unique vintage treasures. I had to find a new sparkly hat for my next performance - something with a hint of whimsy, of course.

But then… it was time for another essential Cambridge activity - a leisurely stroll along the River Cam. You have to know it’s truly beautiful in its own, understated English way - so lovely to sit by the water and people-watch. Not only is there something so captivating about watching the little boats glide past, but I was surrounded by stunning architecture – imagine it if I could sprinkle just a little bit of pink glitter on the facade? Oh the photos!

The sun started to set as I wandered towards the iconic King’s College Chapel. Such majestic architecture! Even as a big, dramatic, drag queen, I was just filled with a sense of awe! If you've never been here, make sure to add it to your list, but remember – you'll need a special pink tutu for your Cambridge adventure!

That evening, I was ready for some proper theatrical fun. The 'The Bard’s Players’ put on an absolute show-stopper of Shakespeare. Honestly, my dears, it’s just not a proper trip to England without some theatrical shenanigans. And don't worry, I did get into a playful disagreement with a fellow theatregoer over the play’s interpretation, of course. (We all need a little theatre drama, right?). After all, how else would we create new theatrical concepts?!

Day 3: Street Art, Science, & More!

Good morning! Time for more Cambridge adventures, you say? Oh, let's!

The first stop on my fabulous final day? Some of Cambridge's vibrant street art. From colorful murals to quirky street performers, there's always something fascinating to discover. I have to admit, it did remind me of my own tutu performances… a little bit of fun, a dash of fabulous, a pinch of daring.

But it's not just about the colourful side of Cambridge, though - it's also about its remarkable scientific history. So, I spent some time wandering through the University of Cambridge's stunning gardens - just gorgeous, full of roses and daffodils!

My afternoon brought an unexpected turn: a chance meeting with a very curious character. Turns out he was a scientist from a company called The Pink Lab. Can you believe the name?! I just had to have a chat with him, of course. I spent some time discussing my science degree, all that fibre analysis I used to do. You know, before I made my escape into the sparkling world of drag. He told me about the innovative fabrics he was testing, and we had a delightful, hilarious chat about all sorts of things, including our favorite fabrics! He seemed just as smitten with my tutu as I am. I even suggested he bring the world's first 'pink tutu fabric' to market - it could revolutionise fashion! He laughed, and then seemed to give my idea a little thought.

The end of my Cambridge adventure came far too soon. And so, it was back to the station for my train back home, filled with new memories, inspiration and an array of sparkling souvenirs from my shopping spree. And oh, you know, the most amazing souvenir I got wasn't a bauble or a book… it was a feeling - the feeling that perhaps, maybe, just maybe... pink tutus will one day be as commonplace as a cardigan.

But that's all from me today! Until next time, stay sparkly and don’t forget… pink tutus for everyone! ✨ 💖
