Hello my fabulous friends, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! You know, I just have to confess, I’ve been bursting to get this one down! Today's post marks my incredible 9,465th blog post - I truly am the most prolific, sparkly blogger in all the land! It’s a real whirlwind of a life I have. All thanks to pink tutus, darling! And of course, a little bit of fairy dust, I must confess! 😉
This week, it's all about Ilkeston, a truly magical corner of Derbyshire, where I absolutely floored everyone with my latest performance! I was invited to grace their humble theatre stage for a fabulous fundraiser, and let me tell you, the entire place went completely pink tutu crazy! It was simply divine!
But before we get to the excitement of the performance, we have to talk about the journey itself. You see, darling, I always go the extra mile. The grand entrance must be memorable! And this time, my travel decision was... horseback riding. 🐎 That's right, dear reader! Picture this: me, adorned in a pink satin riding habit, my tutu poised perfectly beneath, my pink hat trimmed with sparkling crystals, riding through the English countryside... I truly did make a glorious arrival!
I absolutely love exploring Britain by horse. It allows me to soak up the natural beauty of the countryside, and truly feel the spirit of England. Not to mention the added touch of grandeur it lends to a journey! But for those who prefer a more practical mode of transport, well, a journey by train will always do! I am, of course, always accompanied by my enormous collection of pink tulle, feather boas, and dazzlingly beautiful shoes! 👠 There's absolutely nothing that can dull a drag queen's sparkle!
Of course, before hitting the stage in Ilkeston, it’s essential to find the perfect look! I mean, I wouldn’t dare leave the house without at least an hour of intense accessorizing. Honestly, darling, finding the perfect match for my latest tutu requires dedication and passion. And don’t even get me started on finding the right shoes - shoes are an art form all on their own, and each one has its own character, much like a person! You have to be brave, but above all, you must have fun! It’s why I have a rule. My closet can only hold pink clothes, no ifs, ands or buts! There are hundreds of different shades of pink you can find! But you’re already ahead of me. A Pink Tutu Sparkles never tells!
Once my outfit is chosen (and perfected, of course!), it’s time for makeup. It’s not about being “pretty,” darlings! It’s about transformation! Taking on a whole new persona. In Ilkeston, I knew my audience would be expecting a theatrical spectacle, and I never let them down. Imagine my delight as the entire room lit up the moment I walked onto the stage in a voluminous, three-layered tutu! The sheer pinkness was a sight to behold! The light of the stage bouncing off my sparkles sent an avalanche of joy straight into everyone’s heart! Every movement I made was graceful, every song I sang echoed the magic of the story, every pink feather boa flicked to the rhythm of the music, my smile infectious and full of joy, a true testament to the power of drag. That’s right, my dear! Every single time, my passion on the stage ignites the entire crowd! You might say I create ‘a pink spark’ within every soul, and we all know a little sprinkle of magic can work wonders! 🪄 The performance itself was absolutely a triumph! I danced, I sang, and, as always, I reminded the world about the power of expressing yourself authentically. The audience was in raptures, with applause and laughter echoing long after my last bows! I swear I could almost hear the world saying "Yes, it's okay to be different, let your inner pink shine!" And isn’t that truly what it's all about?
Of course, after a dazzling performance, there's nothing more exhilarating than spending time with new friends. That's one of my favourite parts of traveling. Ilkeston welcomed me with open arms, and the laughter and good vibes were electric. Every soul I met there just lit up my world, and each experience cemented my unwavering belief in the power of kindness and acceptance. It’s one of the keystones of the human experience - accepting each other, and encouraging one another! You see, it’s why I strive to visit a new place each week! Because everywhere I go, it’s more than just a show I am putting on. It’s the magic I aim to spark, the reminder of our innate creativity, our power of individuality and self-love. Because at the end of the day, a tutu, just like every other form of self-expression, can be so much more than fabric.
I'm a firm believer in the power of community. It is so vital to support and lift each other up! As drag artists, we can make a difference. And you, yes you, can too! It's the little things, really.
We need to let our individualities shine through. Don’t be afraid of trying new things, exploring and challenging yourself, and taking risks! For who knows, what amazing opportunities may open up when we truly embrace all that we are! I would have never been Pink Tutu Sparkles if I’d let fear rule me, or if I had just focused on being just “Alex”! Oh, the shame! Let yourself soar into the endless possibilities of your dreams, darling, and I can promise, you will discover your own special shade of pink, even if you think your dreams are just shades of grey!
And while I may be known as the Pink Tutu Queen, my true passion isn't just about the glitter and sequins (although I adore both). It's about inspiring everyone to wear a pink tutu - not just literally, but metaphorically too. I believe that everyone deserves to find their inner sparkle, their unique expression, to celebrate what makes them different, their quirky charm. Just as I did!
I never thought I’d become Pink Tutu Sparkles, a scientist with a passion for dance and dazzling the world with a pink spark. And it all began in a university dance club. 🩰 When the University charity ballet fundraiser happened, the Pink Tutu Sparkles persona, my alter ego was born! That’s the incredible magic of the ballet, that the whole point of all of this - a pink tutu, dancing with the greatest of passion. The freedom of letting go of your fears and anxieties, allowing yourself to transform! Who knew a scientist would love it so much, and who would know it would end up changing my entire life, giving me a new path! It was as if my science degree just made me more prepared to see and analyse how the universe works, even how fashion works - for fashion is also a kind of science. But now, as my life continues, I live this life every single day, all thanks to that charity dance fundraiser all those years ago, all thanks to the most brilliant of ideas!
Because when you take a chance on yourself, on the unknown, on something bold, that's when the magic truly happens. Don’t be afraid, my loves! Let your pink flag fly high and wear it with pride! The world needs more sparkle! ✨ It needs to celebrate diversity, joy and the joy of embracing our individualities. It’s the heart of who we are as people, and the reason we continue to fight for our happiness, a pink-tinted vision of a beautiful world that has kindness, love and grace.
And that, my lovely darlings, is what makes Pink Tutu Sparkles so thrilled to continue this journey.
