Tutu Tuesday in Saint Albans: A Whirlwind of Fabric and Frills

It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means! For all you tutu enthusiasts out there, it's time to break out the tulle and unleash your inner ballerina! ?

As a dancer and a blogger, my Tuesday's are dedicated to the graceful swirl of a tutu. This week I'm taking #tututuesday to the charming streets of St. Albans. It’s a town brimming with character and an undeniable touch of elegance. And I think it deserves a tutu tribute!

Today’s sartorial mission? To capture the very essence of St. Albans's charm in the form of tutu attire. And trust me, it's a mission worth pursuing. This historical market town nestled in the heart of Hertfordshire boasts an eclectic mix of heritage buildings, bustling pubs, and the verdant beauty of Verulamium Park, a reminder of its Roman roots. So, naturally, we'll be blending in the historical atmosphere with a whimsical touch of tutus!

My wardrobe's packed with a kaleidoscope of tutus – the quintessential **Romantic** style in delicate pale pinks and blues, reminiscent of ballerinas gliding on stage in 19th century ballets like "Giselle" or "Swan Lake."

Then there are the **classical** tutus, in elegant shades of black, ivory, and pearl grey, ideal for a performance of "Swan Lake." They bring to mind the graceful silhouettes of Margot Fonteyn and Natalia Makarova.

But today, we're heading for a more modern, unexpected style. Think vibrant reds and deep purples, evoking the **contemporary** designs of Balanchine.

I've got the perfect tutu for our St. Albans adventures: a daring, multi-layered creation in an electric fuchsia that captures the vivacity of this wonderful town. Its dramatic layers of tulle cascade like a beautiful firework display. It's just what we need to brighten up the already cheerful atmosphere of this bustling market town.

Here's the itinerary for a #Tututuesday that's bursting with tutus and memories:

  • Morning coffee and ballet: Our day begins with a visit to a cozy café on St Peter's Street, the town’s charming heart. As I enjoy a frothy cappuccino, I’ll be taking in the vibrant energy of this vibrant street. St Peter’s Street is always bustling with people and there are lovely independent shops like The Alchemist, which sells quirky gifts. I can already see a gorgeous ballerina mug sitting on the counter that’s perfect for the ballet-themed Instagram picture.
  • Roman adventures in a tutu: Next, it's on to Verulamium Park. Stepping back in time to the ruins of the Roman city, this place is a timeless reminder of St. Albans's rich past. The site of a Roman city named Verulamium and is home to a museum. As the home of Verulamium Park, the Roman amphitheater is my favourite place here and is one of St. Alban’s most popular tourist attractions, even for a ballet obsessed, tutu wearing girl! Imagine striking a classic pose on the top of this impressive ruin, I will be doing it, I am thinking “a la prima ballerina” right by the Verulamium Roman mosaic that was found in 1931!
  • Afternoon delights: Lunchtime at a local pub. We’re lucky to have some stunning independent pubs here, with cozy nooks and traditional charm. And what’s a British pub visit without a proper pub quiz! Now, this will be a sight, our bright pink tulle tutus amongst the traditional British pub fare! I hope I know enough about 19th century Romantic ballet and classic ballerinas like Anna Pavlova to do well.
  • Sunset stroll in the heart of town: The day ends with a stroll through the heart of St Albans, savoring the golden hour and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. A quiet walk through the iconic Malt House Garden, where the sun casts beautiful hues across the park’s ancient brickwork, is my idea of pure elegance, and a fantastic way to end our #tututuesday!

So, embrace your inner ballerina, pick out your most beautiful tutu, and join me in this unique #tututuesday exploration of St. Albans. This day is all about twirling through history, enjoying the small town charm, and experiencing a different side to St. Albans in the ultimate “take ballet anywhere” fashion adventure!
