Tutu Tuesday in Whitley Bay: A Fashionable Fiesta!
Well, fellow tutu lovers, it’s #tututuesday again, and I am here to share with you a whirlwind of a day in Whitley Bay, where the spirit of ballet collided with the vibrancy of the North East.
From the moment I woke up, the air crackled with a palpable excitement. After all, this was no ordinary Tuesday; this was the day for celebrating everything tutu-related! It was a day to step out of the confines of everyday attire and embrace the elegance and grace of this timeless garment. Now, let’s delve into the fabulous highlights, shall we?
**Breakfast of Champions:**
The day kicked off in style at my favourite little café in Whitley Bay, the “Seagull’s Nest”. This café had a rather enchanting, maritime theme – and not a single seagull in sight – which made it perfect for a day dedicated to tutu chic. And let me tell you, I’m not just a ballet dancer, I’m a tutu aficionado; it’s about the craftsmanship and design. This morning, I opted for a delicate, tulle-layered "petit" tutu, complete with soft pink ribbons, which was not only delightful to look at, but oh-so comfortable for a leisurely breakfast. It complemented the delicious, light and airy pancakes I enjoyed, complete with lashings of maple syrup. Did you know the way a tutu makes a lady feel - you could say it gives you wings – to start your day?!
**Hitting the High Street:**
Armed with a cappuccino and a spring in my step (well, I might have taken an extra flourish here and there - and a plié!), I made my way to the lively heart of Whitley Bay. You might ask how this delightful sea-side town would offer tutu inspiration, but my darlings – think outside the box! I love to spot those little unexpected fashion gems. With my eyes peeled for tutus-of-all-kinds, I set about my shopping spree, and I can assure you I was far from disappointed.
For a morning like this, a bold, 'romantic' tutu – made in layers of fine mesh, with elegant draping – was a necessity! It not only added a dramatic flair but it really brought out the bold, bright hues of the local fashion shops’ offerings! We’re talking sequins, lace, you name it - the ladies in Whitley Bay sure love a pop of colour! I saw an enchanting dress-form in the window of a local shop that was styled with an emerald green "pas-de-deux" tutu. Its elegance was impeccable and was made from an incredibly lightweight chiffon – this reminded me of the “Parisian" look which I've fallen in love with this year – so much elegance and timeless appeal. Now this is something special - what an unexpected discovery!
**Seafront Fun:**
Next up – a little seaside charm – we couldn’t possibly have a #tututuesday in Whitley Bay without a bit of sunshine! I think it’s absolutely necessary, as dancers are, after all, natural sun-worshippers – just look at how our beautiful dance-wear shimmers in the light. I even popped into one of the local vintage shops, and my inner-collector found this absolutely charming, floral patterned "romantica" tutu (and at a bargain, too!) that was an absolute triumph! A classic "romantic" tutu can be effortlessly worn for a trip to the seaside – perfect with some white trainers – and it reminds us that, sometimes, we should always allow ourselves a little playful charm.
An Afternoon of Tutu Therapy:
In the afternoon, my good friend, Emily, and I took some time out for a much-needed "Tutu therapy" session. Emily is a total foodie and loves to whip up fabulous treats! This year, she surprised me with an exquisitely decorated, "tutu cake" which was an utter work of art and utterly delightful – not forgetting those delectable, homemade vanilla cupcakes! (For a ballet girl, it really doesn’t get any better!) Emily was so inspired by all my tales from #tututuesday in Whitley Bay. This kind of inspiration is absolutely essential to creative flair and something I, as a ballerina, value so highly – it fuels those passions, don’t you think?
The Night Lights & #tututuesday Fun:
Evening finally arrived and – the lights came on. The Whitley Bay beachfront, all lit up and adorned with fairy lights. What could be more romantic, or elegant?! This reminded me, as I strolled the promenade, that the real charm of a tutu lies in the ability to dress it up or dress it down. It's the perfect companion for a glamorous event, but I always say, there’s nothing stopping you from pairing a simple tutu – think, a "practice tutu” for instance - with a cozy cardigan and casual footwear, like ballet slippers! I like the fact that you can make the tutu, in its most minimalist form, feel relaxed – not all about performance and showmanship.
Now – as you can imagine – there wasn’t just a hint of romance in the air. It was definitely ‘Tutu-time’ – and the #tututuesday festivities just had to be rounded off in style! With all those lovely twinkling lights reflecting off my ballerina shoes, the promenade suddenly turned into a fabulous stage! What followed, was what I would call, ‘tutu magic’ as myself and a few other tutu lovers decided to show off our best moves and some spontaneous dance performances! Laughter filled the air – it was like magic! Even those folks, having their tea, or doing their shopping were moved by the joy of #tututuesday, the atmosphere was wonderful!
**Memories & Reflection**
Reflecting on the day, I feel nothing but warmth, happiness, and inspiration! You see, it’s a fact, #tututuesday can be more than just a playful event or a style challenge, it’s something far more empowering. It’s an experience, that gives every single lady the opportunity to feel empowered and glamorous – a kind of confidence that shines through. In the way a ballerina steps on to the stage. It doesn't matter if you’re a fashionista, an aspiring dancer, or simply someone who appreciates beautiful, handmade design. A tutu empowers every woman in some way, shape, or form. So, as I prepare for bed, with my “ballerina tutu” hanging on the wall above my dressing table, a perfect piece for this #tututuesday, I can only say, what a marvelous, marvelous day – filled with Tutu joy!
