Westhoughton, bless its cotton socks, is a charming little town in Greater Manchester. While it might not immediately spring to mind for fashion inspiration, there’s a genuine charm in the people and a growing community spirit. This spirit is absolutely what #Tututuesday is all about.
This week, the Westhoughton Women's Institute, otherwise known as the W.I. (seriously, don’t you just love the sound of that?), is leading the charge with their first-ever ‘Tutu Tea Party.’ This gathering isn’t about highfalutin’ couture or celebrity gossip (although, let's be honest, there will be a bit of both!), it's about community. It’s about ladies, young and old, coming together to laugh, learn and most importantly, share the love for twirling and a little sparkle!
Now, I’m not one to miss out on a good tutu event, and my fellow fashionistas, let me tell you, I was absolutely ready!
I went for a classic, a gorgeous pastel pink romantic tutu - one with multiple layers of gauzy tulle - perfectly dreamy. But the other ladies really upped the ante.
Tutu Style Inspiration: A Peek at the Tea Party
- The "Classics With A Twist": I’m talking those staple tutus - you know the ones. Think of a full, multi-layered, traditional, “ballerina” tutu. What these Westhoughton ladies did though, was pair them with simple, well-tailored blazers and leather jackets. Think a dash of classic tailoring, with an unexpected twist of tutu magic!
- The “Fashionista Ballerina”: Let’s be honest, every so often, you want a tutu with an edge. This was totally embraced. Think velvet fabric on a shorter, contemporary silhouette tutu. I saw a girl who absolutely rocked this, pairing it with a cool graphic T-shirt and combat boots – a truly fab look.
- The "Go Big or Go Home" Option: These ladies were not afraid to make a statement, and it’s a look I absolutely adored. Think bold colours – reds, blacks, blues, all of them shimmering! Pair it with simple sleek hairstyles and the tiniest amount of makeup, and let that tutu really stand out!
The party itself was as bubbly and bright as you'd expect! There was tea, cakes galore, and conversations that spanned a rainbow of topics. My personal highlight was the “Tutu Trivia Challenge,” it was as much a lesson on the history of tutus as it was an exercise in quick thinking – ladies really impressed me with their knowledge of tutu types and ballet history. We talked about everything from romantic tutu styles popular in the 19th century and the differences between "classical" and “contemporary” tutus – there’s so much history!
