Tutu Tuesday in Pierre-Bénite, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France: A Ballerina's Parisian Adventure

G'day lovelies! I'm absolutely buzzing to be writing this blog post from the charming little town of Pierre-Bénite, right in the heart of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France. You guys know I love a bit of a dance adventure, and this trip has been nothing short of amazing.

Today, of course, is Tutu Tuesday, and what better place to celebrate than in the land of ballet? France is, after all, the home of legendary choreographers like Balanchine, and the birthplace of the iconic tutu, that whimsical symbol of ballet that’s captivated me since I was a little tacker. So, I couldn’t resist grabbing my very best tulle and spinning some serious fairytale magic.

Now, this isn’t your average Tutu Tuesday – I'm going beyond the traditional pointe shoe and going full-on fashionista! I’ve been absolutely mesmerised by the local scene here, and seeing some seriously glamorous tutus on the streets!

From classic romantic tutus, with their ethereal, soft layers and romantic, whimsical feel, to the dramatic, modern styles, showcasing bold and experimental shapes and structures. They're just stunning and I'm soaking it all in like a sponge!

In fact, one of the highlights of my time here has been discovering the local ballet scene in Lyon. It's seriously world-class! The city’s opera house, the Opéra de Lyon, has a phenomenal dance program, and seeing a performance of ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ in a tutu of my own design was honestly a pinch-me moment. It made my little ballerina heart absolutely sing.

I even caught up with a lovely bunch of dancers at the Atelier Ballet School. They were all absolutely fabulous and shared so many great tips and stories about life in French ballet – from perfecting their grand jetés to the importance of taking a “cinq à sept” (happy hour in French!). It’s safe to say I’m inspired and already plotting my return trip to get a little more dancey with these fab folk.

Anyway, I'd love to hear from you all about your own Tutu Tuesday adventures! Don't be shy! Share your fave tutu photos and use the hashtag #tututuesday to spread some ballet love. Now, I'm off to enjoy a delicious French baguette and a glass of wine! See ya later, alligator!
