Tutu Tuesday in Kalbarri, Western Australia #tututuesday

G'day, fellow twirling enthusiasts! It's your girl, Maisie, here, bringing you another instalment of Tutu Tuesday straight from the heart of Western Australia – the beautiful, wild, and slightly windswept Kalbarri! Now, I know what you're thinking: a tutu in the middle of the Australian outback? Hear me out, darlings. This week's #tututuesday adventure wasn't just about a little ballet in the bush, it was about celebrating the versatility and freedom of the tutu – it's more than just a costume, it's a symbol of artistry, movement, and expression. And trust me, these dusty trails have a story to tell.

Today, we're stepping out of the usual dance studio, away from the traditional wooden floor, and embracing the raw beauty of Kalbarri National Park. My tutu of choice? A breezy, flowy, two-layered tulle number in a dusky pink that evokes the sunset over the Indian Ocean. The perfect balance between ethereal and practical for a bit of bush-bashing.

Speaking of the Indian Ocean, let's talk beachy vibes. Today's #tututuesday photoshoot location was none other than the stunning, turquoise waters of Red Bluff. With the waves crashing and the sun reflecting on the white sand, I swear I could practically hear the seagulls playing Swan Lake in the background.

My biggest fear for the day was a little wind-whipped, tangled-tulle situation. It did get a bit hairy when the trade winds decided to pay me a visit, but luckily, with the help of strategically placed bobby pins and a little creative pose work, my tutu held strong – much to my relief.

Now, it wouldn't be a real Aussie #tututuesday adventure without a spot of wildlife! As I gracefully twirled among the giant red gum trees and fragrant wildflowers, a cheeky wild bird hopped in for a closer look. It was like we were performing a duet, this little featherball and I, with him taking on the role of the mischievous jester. (Thankfully, he didn't try to snag my tulle.)

The real challenge of today’s #tututuesday wasn't actually a fierce flock of cockatoos or the blazing Australian sun (thank heavens for that trusty wide-brimmed hat!), but the uneven terrain. Picture me gracefully negotiating my way across gnarled tree roots and prickly spinifex grass - all with a twinkle in my eye and a confident plié. It was a good reminder that a dancer can dance anywhere. You've just got to be a little more creative and bring that balletic grace to every corner of life – even in the wilds of Western Australia.

Now, I’ve shared a few snippets from our tutu-clad adventure. Here are a few more #tututuesday moments from our trip:

  • Discovering a hidden creek amongst the towering sandstone cliffs.
  • Practising pirouettes on the white, soft sand of Lucky Bay.
  • Standing on the precipice of the Nature’s Window with a panoramic vista, my tutu billowing in the breeze, feeling utterly free.
  • Squeezing into a tiny beach shack, tulle still in tact, for a well-deserved coffee, with the sound of crashing waves in the background.

I encourage all you fellow dance lovers out there to embrace your inner Tutu Tuesday. Whether it's at the ballet studio, the park, the beach, or even in your own backyard, find a way to express yourself, embrace the art of movement, and, most importantly, have a whole lotta fun doing it!

Till next time, dance on!

Maisie
