Tutu Tuesday in Roxton Pond, Quebec: A Celebration of All Things Tutu! Hey, fellow ballet lovers! It’s your girl, Chloe here, bringing you another edition of my #TutuTuesday blog. This week, we’re taking a trip to the charming town of Roxton Pond, Quebec. Roxton Pond is a town with a rich history, but also has a strong community. While Roxton Pond may be small, the community spirit is alive and well! What better way to celebrate the vibrant spirit of this town than with a #tututuesday! The air is alive with the sounds of kids' laughter echoing down the quiet streets, the rustling of fall leaves blowing through trees. It's like something out of a whimsical ballet! Let's explore Roxton Pond, taking in all its quirky and endearing charms. As I stroll along the quiet main street, a gentle breeze sweeps through the trees, carrying the scents of maple syrup and fresh-baked bread. These are the kinds of details that make the countryside towns of Quebec such charming destinations! The sight of antique shops and cozy cafés makes me feel right at home. In fact, one of the best things about living in Canada is being able to hop in a car and escape to the quaint towns hidden all around us. You don't have to go far to feel the escape of a European countryside town with charming bakeries, unique boutiques and an arts and crafts scene just waiting to be explored! I'm happy to report the main street of Roxton Pond had them all! As I made my way through town, a delightful discovery awaited me: Roxton Pond’s community dance centre, a hidden gem brimming with talent. This charming centre reminded me of dance schools in every small town in Canada: modest, community-run, and steeped in dedication. Seeing it reminded me of where my love for dance began. I could just picture the little ones learning the joys of pliés and grand jetés! There's nothing more wonderful than watching dance unfold within such warm and nurturing environments! Why Roxton Pond is the Perfect Spot to Talk Tutu Trends There’s a special feeling that arises when we talk about dance and community together, and the kind of intimate beauty found in the little corners of our great country are the places to do so. Roxton Pond truly is the ideal setting to celebrate #tututuesday. But let's talk about tutus! We love tutus in all their variations – from classic romantic tutus with layers and layers of tulle to playful, whimsical designs in an array of colors. In the past, ballet dancers tended to wear predominantly soft pastels - pinks and blues. The dancewear world has definitely come a long way! There's so much variety these days, you can have fun experimenting with a new look each time you take your class. This season is all about boldness, as seen in the emerging popularity of vibrant red and blue tutus for professional ballet productions! But a bit of boldness doesn't have to just be reserved for the professional level! Bringing the Tutu Love to Roxton Pond I'm feeling particularly inspired to share some tutu love today, and my #tututuesday goal is to inspire some other Roxton Pond ballet lovers to rock a tutu for a day! Let’s face it - we can't all have ballerina bodies, but every day can be #tututuesday in Roxton Pond, and any occasion is a good time to wear a tutu. We should never be shy to express ourselves through fashion - after all, there’s nothing like wearing a vibrant, eye-catching piece to create some joy. I stopped in at Roxton Pond’s favourite local bakery and ordered a delicious latte and scone - I felt I deserved it for a full day of celebrating all things tutu, and it felt only right to top off my afternoon with a sweet treat. It just seemed like the perfect end to my tutu escapade! And what was I to do while I enjoyed my sweet treat? I picked up a pair of needlepoint needles from a nearby boutique and had some fun embroidering a simple "Tutu Tuesday" design on a little canvas bag - you know, just something little to give to my friends when they join me on the #tututuesday journey! It's small, yet something that always feels great. I finished up the afternoon browsing the shelves of a used book shop called 'The Paper Cauldron', which was named in honour of their magical local book group who get together to share their favourite titles. With all the unique bookstores, antique shops, and charming boutiques I found in Roxton Pond, this town just feels brimming with artistry and imagination. Before heading home, I made sure to snap a couple of fun photos at a local park for my #tututuesday social media post. After all, how could I possibly write about a day celebrating tutus without showing off the beauty of these designs, along with the stunning landscapes of Roxton Pond?! With my post complete and a bag of my favorite local treats in tow, I started driving back to the city. Canadian Ballet and Tutu Trends While we have an incredible and internationally known Canadian ballet scene, some of the biggest international dance stars have roots in Canada! What’s more, our ballet scene is so diverse that you can enjoy incredible ballet performances everywhere from the large, iconic venues to smaller intimate performance spaces all across the country, offering incredible community experiences for both dance lovers and new viewers. But don’t get me wrong – even with its professional roots and international recognition, there are countless, dedicated, ballet dancers around the world who just love to dance and learn. There are many reasons I love dancing in Canada. Every city, from small towns to major cities, has amazing dance studios and organizations! With such a welcoming environment and incredible instructors, it's hard not to find something new to explore when you take classes here. My mission with #tututuesday is to share the love for ballet. For every tutu worn, whether it’s on stage, at home, in your city, or in a cozy small town like Roxton Pond, remember the journey it takes to get there.
