Hey dance fam! So, Tutu Tuesday was extra special this week, because I decided to head out on a little road trip. I know what you're thinking, "Saskatchewan?" But hear me out, my friends! I've been feeling the urge to explore the beauty of our vast and wonderful Canadian landscapes. So, this Tuesday, I found myself in the charming and unexpected town of La Loche, Saskatchewan. Yes, Saskatchewan. I know, you're probably picturing endless fields of wheat, but there's a hidden magic there, I promise. I drove into town with the sun setting behind me, and as the warm hues lit up the sky, I knew this was the perfect place to embrace my inner tutu enthusiast. And what's better than celebrating Tutu Tuesday with a little ballet class? The La Loche Dance Studio, run by the incredible Mrs. LeBlanc, offered me the chance to teach a small class. Now, let me tell you, these little dancers are the future of Canadian ballet, and they were buzzing with excitement! Their eyes lit up as I walked into the studio, wearing a stunning **Romantic tutu**, the light layers of tulle swishing gently with my every step. It’s my go-to tutu for a class like this because of its delicate movement and sheer beauty, perfect for a class filled with pure grace. And when it comes to colour, I can’t go wrong with a traditional black, though sometimes a bold fuchsia or cobalt is perfect to make a statement. We started with barre exercises, then moved on to some lovely center work, and finished off with a little choreography, of course! The energy in the room was contagious, and I found myself laughing and sharing stories with these little gems, just as passionate about dance as I am. Afterwards, the town itself surprised me with its quaintness and welcoming energy. It’s amazing what you discover when you venture outside your comfort zone! It was clear to me, Saskatchewan is home to an unexpected dance scene with such depth of passion, talent, and pure, genuine excitement! You can feel it in every step, every jump. But beyond the amazing community and dance scene, I fell in love with the nature. That beautiful Saskatchewan sky I was talking about? The endless wheat fields rolling over the horizon, a magical stillness in the air that only comes from open spaces… there's just something truly calming and beautiful about Saskatchewan's natural landscapes. To wrap up the day, I decided to visit a charming little tea shop called “The Tea Room”. There I had a lovely chat with a local named Claire. Over our delicious herbal teas, we talked about life, and of course, dance. Claire, a retired ballet teacher herself, shared amazing stories of the La Loche dance scene through the years. She even gifted me an old program for the town’s annual summer festival that she taught at. I can tell by the hand-written names, the old-fashioned font and the carefully-placed pictures that this program was a true labour of love. You don’t get this kind of dedication from just anyone – it’s a passion that radiates from the entire town, even in something as small as a community theater event. When I left La Loche, my heart was full of memories. From the magical light on the horizon to the shared laughter with the little dancers and the heartfelt conversation with Claire, it was an evening I’ll never forget. #tututuesday #balletincanada
