Blackpool, the Land of Tutu Tuesday
It’s a sunny Tuesday morning, the kind of day that makes you want to throw on your brightest pink and hit the beach. But for me, today is a day for a different kind of glamour – Tutu Tuesday in Blackpool!
You might be thinking, "Tutu Tuesday in Blackpool? What on earth is that about?". Well, let me tell you, it's one of the best things you can do to celebrate your love for all things dance in this wonderful town by the sea!
As a former dancer with the Royal Ballet, I always felt that dancing and fashion go hand-in-hand. You can tell so much about a dancer's style just by looking at their choice of tutu. A ballerina in a Romantic tutu, with its ethereal, flowing layers, will always be a vision of grace and elegance. But a ballerina in a Classical tutu, with its structured form and crisp lines, is pure power and athleticism.
My Blackpool Tutu Tuesday Essentials
Now, you don’t need to be a professional ballerina to join the Tutu Tuesday fun. In fact, this is one of the things I love the most about it! Blackpool celebrates dance in all its forms, and for one day each week, the promenade becomes a rainbow of tulle. So, to make your own Tutu Tuesday special, I would recommend:
* Picking the perfect tutu.
There's a wide range of tutus to choose from: fluffy pouffe tutus for a princess feel, soft and swishy ballerina tutus for a graceful look, or even classic black tutu for a bold, dramatic statement.
* **Accessorising. **
You don't need a tutu to be part of the fun! You could add a touch of tulle to your outfit. Consider a pretty ribbon in your hair, a little tulle bow on your bag, or even just some pink ballet flats to give a nod to the theme.
* Making a day of it!
For a truly memorable Tutu Tuesday experience, plan a full day of dance-related fun in Blackpool! Have a look at some of the following.
- The Blackpool Tower Ballroom. There are dance shows on almost every day of the year! With its ornate Art Deco features, the Ballroom hosts numerous competitions throughout the year. You can catch talented ballroom dancers, latin dancers, or, even, rock n' roll. A favourite is the annual British Open Dance Championships held in the month of November.
- Take a lesson at one of the many local dance schools. You’ll be amazed at the different genres and styles on offer, and you can try out ballet, contemporary, hip-hop or tap!
* Embrace the Spirit!
Let's be honest, a trip to Blackpool is not complete without the seaside! Take a stroll along the famous Blackpool promenade, grab some fish and chips, and even try your luck on the famous Pleasure Beach rides. After all, it's all about enjoying the feeling of liberation that comes with a bit of tulle and some sea air!
**Celebrating Dance Through The Decades**
You can feel the spirit of dance pulsing through the veins of this seaside town. And you don't just have to wait for Tutu Tuesday to experience it! I remember visiting Blackpool for the first time as a little girl and seeing dancers performing in the streets, or catching the shows at the Winter Gardens, and even spotting the glamorous cabaret performers in the bars around the seafront. The dance tradition here is a beautiful mix of classic ballet, contemporary style and even a touch of glamorous glamour from its days as the country's premier cabaret destination.
Join the Blackpool Tutu Tuesday Celebration!
I know that, in many parts of the country, wearing a tutu can feel like you’re going a bit ‘out there’. But in Blackpool, tutus are as welcome as a deckchair on the promenade. It's a place where dance is for everyone, and it's a celebration of creativity and individuality.
Don’t miss this fantastic chance to celebrate your love for all things dance! I promise you, a day in Blackpool, surrounded by fellow dance enthusiasts, wearing a little tulle (even just a ribbon, or a ballet flat!), will feel like you’re being transported back to your childhood and to the time when anything seemed possible.
