You know, I find that future drag has embraced the theatricality that we adore so much in drag history. In fact, 2037 is an explosion of bold and theatrical performances, embracing elements of camp and humour with such exuberance! The shows I've seen are all about grand narratives and stunning visuals – think extravagant costume changes, gravity-defying makeup looks, and even holographic backdrops that bring these stories to life! I love the commitment to performance and creativity, and it reminds me so much of drag's roots in performance art and theatricality. It truly is an evolution!
This month's journey began in Tokyo, where the drag scene is positively buzzing. The streets are alive with the energy of dazzling drag queens who bring such vibrant, street-smart drag to the city. They own the clubs and bars, rocking sassy looks that pay homage to fashion icons from years past, with a decidedly futuristic edge. Think cyber-punk glam and cyberpunk inspired make-up - like, wowza!
But let me tell you, my darlings, my pink tutu took me on an absolute rollercoaster ride of experiences! From the neon-lit clubs of Tokyo to the pulsating underground dance floors in Berlin, each city has a distinct flavour and approach to drag that I simply adore. In Berlin, the drag scene is known for its rebellious and avant-garde performances, with queens embracing bold concepts and pushing boundaries.
But you know, what truly captivates me about drag is the sense of community and connection it fosters. Whether I'm sipping on a cocktail in a drag bar in New York City or laughing along with a crowd in a Parisian drag show, it's the camaraderie and sense of belonging that makes it so special. I love being able to see drag's influence and impact in different cities around the world - each place boasts a unique blend of styles and expressions.
This trip was extra special as I got to see a special show dedicated to the early days of drag. You see, 2037 is an age of immense technology, but it doesn't mean we have forgotten our drag history. In fact, this show used incredible holographic projections of drag legends like Divine and RuPaul! The crowds were captivated, singing along to iconic hits while reminiscing about the impact those drag icons had on their own lives. It was an emotional journey to see how drag's impact has continued to resonate across time and technology.
Now, you know my absolute mission is to get every single person out there rocking a pink tutu! So let me ask you this - when are you going to be joining the fabulous world of tutus, my loves? Because I promise, rocking a pink tutu can take you to so many amazing places, not to mention making you feel absolutely radiant and fabulous! Think about it.
And speaking of feeling fabulous, this month my trip to 2037 led me to the world's most fashionable drag queen. You have to check out the Pink Flamingo, who is known for her bold designs and dedication to ethical fashion. Think shimmering textiles made from recycled materials, extravagant feather trims that are plucked ethically from naturally shed feathers, and of course, all inspired by, you guessed it, my darling - the majestic pink flamingo! She's even released her own range of biodegradable, ethically sourced sequins for drag queens and drag enthusiasts, giving them the opportunity to sparkle with a conscience.
