Hey my lovelies, it’s Emma here, back for another sparkly blog post!
This time I’m going right back in time - and don’t worry, this isn't a 'Back to the Future' scenario with flux capacitors and crazy inventions. I just get my time travel fix through the most magical of journeys - a journey into the heart of Christmas Ballet history!
But first, let's talk fashion! It's December 2012, and oh my goodness, the world is completely enthralled with sparkles and shimmer. The London stage is alive with incredible ballet designs, from the absolutely jaw-dropping feather boas of 'The Nutcracker' at the Royal Opera House, to the gorgeous floral motifs in 'Swan Lake' over at the Sadler’s Wells. Of course, my favourite detail? The tutus, darling. Absolutely stunning tutus, just overflowing with layers and shimmer. We're all obsessed with the 2012 festive trend: more is more when it comes to sequins! My wardrobe, you ask? It's literally exploding with gorgeous pink and white tutus - because what is Christmas without a touch of pink, eh?
Right, so about that Christmas ballet journey...I’m so excited to whisk you all back to 2012 for our festive ballet time travel extravaganza!
Flashback to the Big Ballet 2012...
Imagine it: It’s Christmas in Derbyshire, a dusting of snow on the cobbles of Bakewell, the smell of mince pies and the joyous sound of carols. My little heart is bursting with Christmas spirit, and I’ve just bought myself the most beautiful tutu: it’s a pale pink swirl of tulle that practically cries out to be twirled. I could barely wait to wear it! And this year, the magic was going to be even more special - because we were heading for the Christmas performance at the Royal Ballet.
Remember, back then, ‘The Nutcracker’ was the go-to for Christmas ballet, and it still is! But there was also a real excitement about ‘Sleeping Beauty’ too, which always felt more glamorous and slightly naughty. I remember watching it, feeling so swept away by the story, the music, and, of course, the magical costumes!
Ballet on the Streets?
Now, you might wonder how I get around. Well, my darling, you’ve probably heard of those magical shoes Cinderella has? You know, the ones that let her go to the ball? Mine aren't exactly magic glass slippers - but let’s just say they help me get around in more than a few interesting ways... Let’s just call it street-style ballet. My performance in Nottingham the other day? It had everything a ballet performance needs: passion, a touch of glitter, a gorgeous tutu (pink of course!), and a couple of extra special steps for good measure - inspired by my street ballet style. It gets people talking, I can tell you. Plus, it helps pay the bills.
But now, back to 2012. What happened with our Christmas ballet adventure? We took our little Christmas carols all the way to the Royal Ballet, sat in the velvet seats, the atmosphere was pure magic. And then? The curtain rose, the orchestra played those glorious tunes, and it was just magical, absolutely magical. Everyone, young and old, were captivated, even my Dad - although, it's a bit of a stretch to say he enjoyed the ballet fashion aspect of things... but at least he knows my favourite color is pink.
A World of Tutu Fashion...
And, speaking of ballet fashion, you’d never believe the beautiful creations I saw. There was everything: elegant pointe shoes, beautifully fitted costumes, and those breathtaking tutus - each one more glamorous than the last. And of course, I have my eye on everything pink, from shimmering dresses and elegant tops to statement-making bags. After all, what’s a ballerina's style without a touch of pink, eh?
This time travel journey has taken us on quite the adventure, hasn't it? Christmas, ballet, fashion...they just seem to go together beautifully.
But before I go, there’s just one more thing… Let’s celebrate!
Let’s go grab some delicious Christmas-themed treats: hot chocolate and a plate of the most divine gingerbread cookies, to make our journey through time truly memorable.
I’ll be back with more pink-tutu adventures soon!
Love,
Emma xoxo
