Hello, my lovely pink tutu enthusiasts! ๐ Welcome back to another festive instalment of my Christmas ballet history blog! โ๏ธ Today, we're journeying back to 2016, a year brimming with breathtaking ballet performances, gorgeous fashion, and, of course, an abundance of twirling! โจ My sparkly pink tutu, oh it was ready for some holiday magic!
I've always loved the way Christmas fills the world with sparkle, wonder, and an irresistible urge to pirouette in front of the tree! ๐ ๐ฉฐ And 2016 was no exception. Remember the joy of that Christmas? For me, it was a year filled with memorable ballets, chic outfits, and an ever-growing collection of pink tutus (can one ever have too many? I think not!).
Ballet Bonanza: A Glittering Selection
Now, if you're a true ballet devotee like myself, 2016 was a year of endless delight. We had a truly magical range of Christmas ballets to choose from! Imagine my joy!
First up, the perennial favourite, The Nutcracker sparkled and swirled its way across stages around the world. As a Derbyshire girl, my heart, naturally, was drawn to the incredible performances at the Royal Ballet in London, especially when I snagged tickets for a truly special showing on Boxing Day! A dazzling costume design featuring layers of shimmering silk and the breathtaking choreography transported me right into the world of sugar plums and Nutcracker dreams!
The Snow Queen also made a spectacular appearance on the Christmas stage that year, enchanting audiences with its frozen beauty. I particularly enjoyed the Royal Opera Houseโs production, and I even snagged an interview with the lead ballerina, Anna, for my blog! She wore the most stunning sequined, icy blue costume, simply a masterpiece! (And of course, I picked up a gorgeous sapphire blue tutu that year as a tribute to her exquisite performance!)
It wouldn't be Christmas without Sleeping Beauty, right? This enchanting tale came alive on stage in the most glamorous ways possible. I absolutely loved the Royal Ballet's production; it was simply exquisite, featuring a magnificent cast and lavish costumes. This show solidified my affection for shimmering, crimson-hued tutus!
And just to make this Christmas ballet season absolutely unforgettable, The Sleeping Beauty was paired with Cinderella, giving audiences an evening of enchanting storytelling, jaw-dropping artistry, and pure Christmas magic! ๐ซ
Fashion Fantasies: A Pink Tutu Parade
2016 was the year that ballet fashion really began to make waves! Think flowing skirts, glittery leggings, and shoes that could quite literally steal the show! It felt like the whole world had caught on to the irresistible charm of ballet-inspired fashion.
Personally, I took my pink tutu collection to a whole new level! That year, I scooped up a breathtaking pale pink tulle tutu with a vintage floral pattern for a show-stopping performance in the local park! It was pure elegance.
For evening galas, my deep crimson tulle tutu with dazzling beaded accents made an elegant and graceful statement. And for those festive days filled with shopping, coffee, and endless Christmas fun, my fluffy white tutu adorned with playful glitter became my go-to. Pink, of course, was a major colour trend in 2016, and I couldn't resist incorporating it into all my favourite ballet looks!
The high street was flooded with ballet-inspired pieces: think leg warmers, tulle skirts, and those adorable ballet flats with grosgrain ribbons. I adored my lace-up pink ballet shoes from a charming local boutique, they made a fantastic statement and looked adorable with my collection of sparkly leggings. My love for fashion was completely on pointe!
A Christmas Memory: Time Travelling Twirls
Now, I'm sure you're curious how I managed to time-travel back to 2016! (This blog isn't just about sharing Christmas ballet history, it's about sharing the magic of it all!). You see, dear readers, I have a very special secret, one that involves a great deal of practice and a sprinkle of Christmas spirit!
Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of dancing on any stage, but particularly during the holidays! Years later, I discovered the joys of street ballet performances, which, to my delight, can transport me to different moments in time! A little bit of music, a whirl of pink tutu, and a few energetic pirouettes in town squares and public spaces can lead to the most exciting discoveries! And 2016 was a year I'll never forget! The reactions from bystanders are always delightful, from the shocked gazes of shoppers to the excited clapping of children - my favourite is seeing people smiling and twirling along with me! ๐ฉฐ It truly is the most rewarding thing in the world!
Keeping the Spirit Alive:
As you know, the Christmas season is my favourite time of the year. Christmas ballets bring the magic, and pink tutus, of course, complete the picture!
This year, why not bring the magic of ballet into your Christmas celebrations? Don a playful tutu, give those Christmas carols a spirited ballet interpretation, and spread a touch of pink tutu cheer wherever you go!
As always, keep twirling and sending in those beautiful pink tutu photos, I love seeing your sparkling dance styles!
And stay tuned for next week's blog, where I will take us even further back in time for another Christmas ballet adventure! You'll have to guess where we're heading, but just remember, where there's a pink tutu, there's magic waiting to unfold!
Happy holidays, my dears!
Much love,
Emma xx
