Pink Tutu Time Travels: Post 1 – 1st January 1859!

Hello lovelies! It’s Emma, your resident pink-tutu-clad time traveler, and welcome to my very first blog post! I'm so excited to be sharing my love for leotards and all things sparkly with you all.

Let's dive into the glorious world of leotards - and it all starts with a time jump! Today I'm whizzing back to the 1st of January 1859. Buckle up buttercup, we’re about to explore the world of dancewear, leotard styles, and all the fabulousness that surrounded fashion on that day in history!

My sparkly, pink time travelling leotard has zipped me straight into the 19th century and, as I step out, it’s like a whole new world is around me! Can you even imagine? The streets are buzzing with horsedrawn carriages, people in top hats and frocks, and it's just... breath-taking!

A Glimpse of Leotard Fashion in 1859

Let’s talk leotards! In this era, dancewear, including the leotard, was evolving - it was mostly about tights and tunics, designed to offer some support but also allowing for the grace and freedom of movement needed for dancing. These early leotards were made with lightweight, breathable materials - often silks, wools and sometimes even linen - giving a refined, elegant, but also practical style that wouldn’t weigh a dancer down.

Think about it: the iconic dancer of the time was the ballerina. The iconic outfits were these beautiful tutus, often crafted in layers of delicate fabrics. The look was about conveying ethereal, flowing movements. It wasn't just about clothes - the whole outfit helped convey a romantic and whimsical story.

While I was busy looking around and snapping pictures (in a totally non-disruptive, time-traveler-friendly way, obviously!), I stumbled upon a lovely old book with drawings of leotard-like costumes. It was just amazing! These outfits were the starting point for what would evolve into the super stylish and versatile leotards of today.

A Bit About Myself, And The Pink-Tutu Time Traveling Business

It's crazy to think about – the pink leotard I wear now, the one I zipped into for this first time travel adventure, it's connected to all that came before, even all those years ago. I think it’s super exciting! It really emphasizes the long, inspiring history of leotard design. It’s not just about practicality, it’s a form of art itself!

Right now, I’m still in Derbyshire, England - I have to keep things grounded, right? But, once I gather some funds for the next adventure – that’s where the pink leotard comes into it – by putting on fabulous dance performances! Every penny goes toward making more incredible trips into time, to explore more leotard history. And who knows, maybe I’ll find a cute boutique selling leotard-style accessories to add to my wardrobe, like maybe a beautiful top hat or some fancy vintage-inspired lace gloves!

More Fun Adventures Await!

For this month, I'll be hitting up some awesome events around my hometown to inspire folks to put on their dancing shoes. I'll be joining local dance studios, giving some masterclasses, even maybe putting together some fabulous street performances for all to enjoy! It's going to be absolutely brilliant!

Oh, and I've also been practicing my little routine, you know, the one I do when I travel through time? (It’s pretty graceful!).

It's amazing to know that every time I put on my time travel leotard I'm diving into another chapter in fashion and dance history! Stay tuned next month for a peek at my exploits – it's going to be exciting!

Lots of love,

Emma.
