Pink Tutu Travels: Episode 5 - A Parisian Interlude! 🌸

Welcome back, dears! It's your favourite tutu-clad time-traveller, Emma, here! 👋 I'm thrilled to welcome you to the fifth instalment of my little blog, www.pink-tutu.com - the place where the magic of the leotard and the romance of time travel collide! 🩰🕰️

This month, I've travelled to the charming city of Paris - a haven of elegance and style, especially when it comes to leotard fashion! Oh, the excitement! 😍 This particular journey landed me smack-bang in the middle of May, 1859 - a year teeming with theatrical enchantment. And you know what I discovered?

Well, my darlings, May 5th, 1859, was the first performance of the opera "Faust" at the Théâtre Impérial de l'Opéra in Paris! And wouldn't you know it, the very costumes for this breathtaking spectacle, including the glorious red satin dress for Marguerite, were designed by none other than the legendary Charles Frederick Worth, the man considered the "father of haute couture"! Imagine my delight! 🤩

Speaking of haute couture, dear reader, can we discuss leotards for just a moment? The 1859 leotard - well, let's just say it's a far cry from the fitted, body-hugging wonders we know and love today! Back then, the leotard was typically a long, loose-fitting garment that was worn under other clothing. It served as a comfortable, yet modest base layer for those dancers who dared to flaunt their strength and grace.

My lovely leotard, you see, is a time-traveling, pink-sparkling creation. It whisks me off on adventures - from 19th century Parisian stages to Victorian dance halls. While my usual street performance outfit for fundraising might be a simple but vibrant pink tutu, my time-travelling outfit has to be sparkly and pink – like my spirit!

The Parisian stage in 1859 was, as you can imagine, adorned with luxurious and theatrical designs. I absolutely adored the lush silks and satins - just dreamy! It was almost as if they whispered stories of passionate ballerinas and valiant knights, stories waiting to unfold beneath the velvet stage curtains! ✨

What were my highlights during my Parisian interlude, you ask? Oh my goodness, darling, where do I even begin! Let me tell you!

Firstly, a delightful surprise was the "pas de deux" in the ballet scene. You just know how much I love to twirl and I'm fascinated by dance moves, particularly those dramatic two-person pieces! It felt as if I had stepped into a storybook – the dance of courtship, the fluttering hearts, the breathtaking artistry - it simply stole my breath away! 😍

Then, the beautiful fabrics used for the costumes! They were incredibly ornate, with delicate lace detailing and lush velvets that made every costume a work of art. This beautiful fashion detail sparked a burning desire in my heart - I had to witness the world of leotards and costumes from different eras! Time travel - it seemed like the only solution!

My visit to the opera house inspired me. It’s so inspiring to see the costumes worn during a time of incredible theatrical passion. Even then, there was such beauty in every stitch and design! I decided that month that I'd use my time travelling to take you on a journey through leotard fashion and uncover the secrets that hide within those beautiful, elaborate garments, and I’ve been sharing these amazing stories ever since!

Speaking of leotards, this brings me to my very favourite leotard fashion trend of the moment! This week, I spotted the most fabulous ‘Romantic Ballet’ style of leotard - so chic and charming! This elegant piece with it’s fitted bodice and romantic long sleeves with flowing fabric in all the delicious pink shades would be perfect for those dancers who like to add a touch of femininity to their moves!

There you have it, dears! Another exciting episode in my time-travelling adventures! I must be off now. There is another performance waiting for me. 🩰 I have to practise my “pas de deux” for tonight's show in a new Victorian park, in my Derbyshire village - right by the brook. 🏞️ Do you think I’ll have an audience for tonight’s show, darlings? Let me know if you have any lovely leotard stories, or maybe a favorite pink colour shade that you adore, and tell me, what will our leotard fashion time-traveling journey bring us next month?

Stay fabulous, dears! 💖

Love,

Emma 💖
