Pink Tutu Travels: 10th October 1913 - A Parisian Ballet Debut!

Hello darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! This month, for blog post number 658, I've dusted off my magical, sparkling pink time-travel leotard (it never fails to make me feel like a fairy!) and headed to the bustling streets of Paris, 1913. It's October the 10th, and the air is abuzz with excitement for an extraordinary ballet premiere!

As always, before I embark on a time-travelling adventure, I like to research the fashion trends of the period, and let me tell you, 1913 was a dream for any leotard aficionado! We're right in the heart of the Belle Époque, a golden age for dance, theatre, and most importantly, for leotards! Imagine delicate, hand-stitched designs, flowing chiffon, and a touch of silk and lace for that touch of Parisian glamour!

Leotard fashion in 1913: a peek behind the curtain

Picture a leotard with the silhouette of a blooming flower, complete with soft pleats and delicate embroidery. And the colours! Think blush pinks, pastel blues, and creamy whites – the epitome of feminine grace. While today, a simple black leotard reigns supreme, in 1913, these designs were often layered over silk undergarments for an ethereal effect.

You can imagine how my heart skipped a beat as I strolled through the charming Parisian streets, taking in the spectacle of ladies sporting stunning dresses and feathered hats, but most importantly, keeping an eye out for those stunning ballet leotards! There were also beautiful, hand-painted leotards – works of art! Just a quick detour to a tailor to find a beautiful pink tutu and we're off!

My adventure at the Palais Garnier

My destination? The world-famous Palais Garnier, home to the illustrious Paris Opera Ballet. It's the place to be if you're interested in the heart and soul of Parisian ballet. Just the grand façade alone was enough to make me swoon! It was positively brimming with excitement – gentlemen in impeccable suits, ladies in their finest gowns, and whispers of intrigue echoing through the grand halls.

The anticipation built as I finally found myself seated in the plush velvet seats of the theatre, mesmerised by the elegant opulence surrounding me. I couldn't help but be overwhelmed with the sheer history of this place - the generations of ballerinas who graced the stage before me.

Tonight, the highlight was the world premiere of Sergei Diaghilev’s legendary Ballets Russes, Le Sacre du Printemps. Imagine, a performance so radical, so groundbreaking that it sparked both shock and awe among the audience. You wouldn't believe the swirling, primal energy and vibrant colours! The dancers in their magnificent costumes moved with an intensity that brought the myth of the ancient Slavic rites to life.

My own leotard debut

I simply had to try out the elegant, flowing silk leotard that a charming little Parisian boutique had caught my eye on my way to the theatre! After a quick change in the dressing rooms, I decided to venture outside for a street performance under the Parisian moon. And my friends, I am the envy of every single tutu-wearing soul in Paris! My performance captivated passersby, from flower sellers to dashing gentlemen in top hats!

My pink tutu message: sharing the love!

You see, my dears, I've made it my mission to share my love of all things pink and tutu with the world. And what better place to do it than Paris, the very heart of fashion? It is time we reclaim the ballerina look and wear it everywhere!

The energy of Paris, the incredible fashion, and the heart-stopping ballet performances of 1913 filled my heart with the most joyful pirouette of a feeling. I urge you, darlings, embrace the pink, embrace the tutus! Find the confidence to stand out and own your fabulous self!

I can’t wait to see where my magical pink leotard takes me next month!

Until then, keep twirling, keep sparkling, and always remember – pink is power!

Lots of love,

Emma
