Pink Tutu Travels: #LeotardHistory February 2nd, 1987! (Post #1538)

Hello my lovelies, and welcome to Pink Tutu Travels, your one-stop shop for all things leotard and tutu-licious!

It's Emma here, your resident time-travelling ballerina extraordinaire, and I'm bubbling over with excitement to share my adventures with you today! It's the 2nd of February, 1987, and as usual, my magical pink sparkling leotard has whisked me off on another time-travelling spree. Where have I landed this time? You guessed it, a place where all things leotard fashion reign supreme!

Today, the 2nd of February 1987, felt positively bursting with leotard-loving vibes! Now, I know what you're thinking, "Emma, it's the 80s, it's all about leg warmers and neon colours!". While that's not entirely incorrect, there were subtle hints of something new emerging - a shift toward a more classic aesthetic that wasn't afraid to blend vintage charm with modern practicality. It was almost as if the leotard fashion world was taking a breath, preparing for the explosion of colour and innovation to come!

I spent the morning dancing through the streets of London's West End, where a sense of anticipation for the new season was in the air. The theatre world was abuzz with whispers about the hottest new designs, and everyone was talking about the breathtaking tutus designed by Mr. X. He's known for his daringly voluminous, fluffy, tutus! His creations truly took my breath away – I'd never seen anything so beautifully impractical!

Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to London without a stop at "Leotard Lane" (the only place to get your ballet gear) at Covent Garden, a haven for those with a passion for dance and fashion. It's just bursting with an eclectic array of dancewear - from classic black and pink leotards with vibrant geometric patterns to elegant dance-friendly skirts in dazzling shades. I even found myself drawn to some of those oh-so-80s neon leotards and stretchy tights that my heart still has a little fondness for. But today, my heart yearned for something a bit more refined and graceful. I found the most stunning pink leotard with delicate lace accents, perfect for any ballerina seeking a touch of vintage romance. I even found a perfect, feather-trimmed, ballet tutu in my favourite shade of baby pink.

To finish the day off, I found myself in the audience of "La Bohème", the opera! The opera itself was beautiful, the costumes were simply phenomenal. But it was the lead ballerina's performance that had my attention. A simple, white, silk leotard and the most incredible white tulle tutu. And not just a single layer of tulle either, there were layers upon layers, each with just a subtle sheen. Oh, how I would love to see her wardrobe!

Today was a lesson in classic ballet wear - the timeless elegance and beauty of a perfect ballerina leotard. They never go out of style and never cease to inspire.

And just because I’m here in the wonderful world of 1987 - do any of you have any exciting Leotard news from this fabulous decade? Are there any shows or performances from the 80’s you would like me to look out for? Do let me know, I love hearing your thoughts.

And as for the world's mission - well, I haven't managed to get everyone wearing a pink tutu yet. But every single person I see, whether in London today, or during my next jaunt, gets a big pink tutu smile from yours truly. It is definitely helping to spread the love for the tutu, and a little bit of colour and excitement, all over the world.

Catch you soon for my next travel adventures. Until next month, my dearest leotard enthusiasts, spread some sparkle and stay fabulous!

Love,

Emma x
