This month, my magical time-travelling pink leotard (yes, it's actually magical! 😉) took me on a whirlwind tour of leotard history, landing me in the midst of April 2015! Now, April may be a little chilly in Derbyshire, but the fashion scene in 2015 was absolutely sizzling hot!

Right, imagine this: you've just popped out for a coffee and what do you see? A group of amazing dancers rehearsing in a studio window, flaunting leotards that blending sleek lines with sassy details! Yep, 2015 is where it's at for fashion-forward leotards. You've got the classics, like those sleek, simple scoop neck and long-sleeved ones, but designers were adding everything from statement backs to funky straps and vibrant colour pops! Think jewel tones, geometric patterns, even animal print - oh, how I adore the bold confidence of the modern leotard!
Dancing The Decades - My April 2015 Fashion Finds
My journey through April 2015 began in Paris, at the beautiful Palais Garnier opera house. I spotted the Paris Opera Ballet in a dazzling array of costumes that simply sparkled. The dancers were all in classic black leotards with those glorious, flowing tulle skirts – you know, the kind that looks like it was sculpted by the gods of elegance. Those tutus are legendary, I tell you!
My next stop was London, a place always buzzing with fashion-forward energy! You wouldn’t believe the styles popping up on the stage at the Royal Opera House – it's where the trendsetters really shine! This month, they were wearing beautiful leotards with those sheer panels – just divine! And those colours! Vibrant jewel tones like ruby and emerald really popped. I even saw some incredible modern choreography pieces, where the dancers were in sleek, skin-tight leotards in fiery shades of red, orange, and yellow. It was breathtakingly bold!
Oh, and speaking of boldness, London’s West End theatres weren’t afraid to embrace colour either! I caught a spectacular musicals with a leotard symphony! There were sassy crop tops and shorts, flowing rompers, and shimmering metallic finishes that just blew my mind. And who could forget those funky tights! They perfectly complement the dance routines, whether classic ballet or contemporary modern choreography.
A Time Traveller’s Favourite Fashion Pick
But I must say, the leotard that really stole my heart in April 2015 was a whimsical one – I saw it worn by a gorgeous professional ballet dancer! It was pale pastel pink, with delicate ruffles, just begging to twirl! It reminded me of my own favourite tutu and had me spinning around in delight.
Now, I know I might be a tad biased – after all, my favourite colour is pink, and a life without a pink tutu simply isn't living! But it truly embodied the best of both worlds: a classic shape, updated with feminine elegance and charm.
