Hello lovelies! It’s your favourite Derbyshire darling, Emma, back with another fabulous instalment of my Pink Tutu time travel adventures! I’m absolutely buzzing to tell you all about my trip to February 2016, a month brimming with leotard-licious fashion! And let me tell you, this trip took some serious sparkly sequins and even more glitter. Buckle up, because we’re going on a magical ride!
Remember my shiny new pink time-travelling leotard? You know, the one that sparkles even in the darkest corners of history? Well, let me tell you, it's become my new best friend, zipping me through time and inspiring hearts with the power of a good, old fashioned pink tutu. (If you missed that post, it was all about getting my pink sparkler and it’s been one of the most popular posts ever – maybe we need to thank the sparkles!). This month it was February 2016 – an absolutely magical month! I got the chance to see a gorgeous performance of 'The Nutcracker' at the Royal Opera House. And not just any 'Nutcracker'. This one featured stunningly designed, elaborate tutus and shimmering leotards! Those colours - divine! I actually managed to snag some backstage time and got to chat with some of the dancers. They were all so friendly! Such a warm welcome from some true leotard lovers!
From the hallowed halls of the Opera House, I travelled back in time a bit and visited the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City. Did you know, in February 2016 they hosted a mind-blowing exhibit called 'Items: Is Fashion Modern?'. Imagine a whole exhibit celebrating fashion! My sparkly leotard was itching to get in there and do a little shimmy – but I thought maybe they weren’t expecting pink tutu dancing in the museum, so I settled for some serious browsing. There was a lot to see, so I’ve got a list going for my next post on the top leotard styles from the exhibit. But, let’s just say this, I’m calling it a real must-see if you want a bit of serious inspiration.
No fashion-loving trip is complete without a little bit of retail therapy. My shopping escapade took me to the glorious city of Milan! It’s fashion central and I couldn’t resist picking up some of the hottest new leotards of the moment. Imagine this: stretch fabrics with holographic patterns, ballet-inspired skirts in gorgeous shades of pink – my wallet was hurting, but my fashion heart was soaring! I bought some beauties – oh yes – these were the perfect leotard souvenirs.
But, it wouldn’t be a trip without a little street magic! This time, I found myself performing in a busy piazza in the heart of Italy. People stopped to watch, their faces lit up with wonder as I spun and pirouetted in my bright pink tutu, spreading my love for dance across the world, one twirl at a time. It was just amazing! They loved it! People were even filming!
As my pink tutu time travel continued, I was amazed by all the amazing performances and trends in February 2016! Fashionistas were obsessing over vintage-inspired leotards and sleek, sporty styles, proving that there’s something for everyone, no matter what your taste! I even had a sneaky peek at some behind-the-scenes at fashion week, where they were all going crazy over athleisure leotards. It seems those ballet-inspired designs were everywhere - who knew!? I mean, ballet has got to be the most fashionable dance - it is the queen of dances, I’ve decided.
Let’s talk about the highlights! Here are my favourite leotard moments from February 2016, shall we?
Leotard Love of the Month:
- The "Sporty Spice" trend, all about stretchy and comfortable leotards. Think chic and modern but with a splash of that old-fashioned ballerina feel. You know, practical but fashionable, a leotard that can go anywhere and look amazing! Think sporty with an artistic twist - you know I love a splash of ballet! There are a lot of exciting options and the sporty look in ballet and for fashion, as well as on the streets, has become all the rage!
Colour Trends:
- The whole rainbow was going strong, but nothing stole my spotlight like those beautiful pastel hues and shades of soft pink! Think bubblegum pink, lavender and lilac. The colours of springtime - who doesn’t love a little sweetness and light!? Perfect for creating dreamy leotards and matching tutus!
Leotard Inspirations:
- Forget the gym leotards! This was about finding the coolest dance-wear and street-wear leotard with a bold twist. My latest purchase has me doing a few happy twirls - you guessed it – the sleekest street wear leotard with that bold splash of colour and I’m pairing it with a fabulous, extra long tulle skirt. Just divine!
Oh! and, don’t forget, I always need your fabulous fashion tips! So, share them with me! What’s making you twirl with excitement this month? What styles and colours are grabbing your attention? Let me know in the comments below!
Keep your hearts light and your tutus spinning, lovelies!

P.S. Did I tell you I found this beautiful old music box at a flea market, it plays the most amazing waltzes and ballerinas dance around it, it's absolutely divine, and is my new favorite treasure! I love the vintage details of it – all those swirls and curls – such exquisite craftsmanship. Maybe it’ll end up in the shop - pink-tutu.com. Have you visited lately?
I’m always on the hunt for the most delightful pink tutus and leotard creations and my collection of antique items is just growing, I’ll let you know more in the next post!
