Leotard Travels: 10th October 2017 – A Parisian Soirée! (Blog Post #1906)

Hello, darlings! Emma here, back from another delightful time travel adventure! This month, my sparkly pink leotard whisked me away to the charming city of Paris, a veritable mecca for all things fabulous! As you know, my heart beats for tutus, for leotards in every shade and style, and this journey promised a peek into Parisian dancewear in its golden age – October 10th, 2017!

Let’s rewind the clock a little. Before I could twirl my way to Paris, I had to make some magic happen right here in my hometown, Derbyshire. You see, my time travelling leotard needs a little bit of... shall we say... financial motivation! This month, I chose a quaint cobblestone square in Matlock Bath for my performance. The locals, as you can imagine, were a bit surprised by a lone ballerina in a pink tutu amidst their Saturday afternoon market, but I brought smiles to faces (and even the odd bobble of the head to the rhythm of my steps!), It’s amazing how a touch of pink can brighten even the greyest of skies.

And with my purse plumped from the day's earnings, it was time for me to shimmer back to the 10th of October, 2017, right into the heart of Paris!

Oh, Paris, you enchantress! As soon as I stepped onto the cobblestones, I was met with the most glorious sights and sounds. Elegant couples in vintage clothing, the warm aroma of freshly baked bread, and music that seemed to whisper promises of adventure. But first, my senses were overwhelmed by the sheer majesty of the Paris Opera House, a breathtaking architectural masterpiece, draped in soft candlelight. It beckoned me, whispered my name in a language of elegance and grace. Of course, my inner ballerina couldn't resist – this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

And what was going on within the hallowed walls of the Paris Opera on this very date, you ask? Ah, a treasure trove of performances and events! The renowned ballet troupe, The Paris Opera Ballet, were showcasing their artistic mastery in "La Bayadère", a masterpiece that continues to enthrall audiences even today. Imagine the spectacle – the exquisitely detailed costumes, the vibrant colours, and the swirling, graceful movement of these world-class dancers. I simply couldn't contain my excitement, but I had to wait! First, a spot of shopping for a new Parisian inspired leotard was definitely on the agenda.

After a little exploration through charming side streets, I found myself in the Marais, an area bursting with creative energy. This neighbourhood in 2017 was teeming with vintage clothing shops, independent boutiques and workshops dedicated to all things fashion – even leotard fashion! And guess what? One of them boasted a collection of tutus so stunning I nearly fainted! They had an incredible selection, from classically beautiful to truly eccentric styles, but all of them crafted with such exquisite craftsmanship and love, I nearly shed a tear of joy. Of course, I couldn't leave without my own special Parisian piece. I snagged a little gem, a stunning tulle tutu in shades of rose pink and ivory, perfect for any evening affair.

With my newly acquired treasure safely nestled within my pink leotard (thank goodness it’s big enough for both!), I hurried to a performance by the French choreographer, Jerome Bel. His groundbreaking work was revolutionary – pushing boundaries in dance, fashion, and storytelling. His 2017 masterpiece “Gala” had its premiere that evening, and let me tell you, it was unforgettable! Imagine a dance party, the joyous camaraderie of individuals expressing themselves freely through movement. It was a celebration of diversity and expression, with an astounding array of colorful outfits and expressive costumes.

But my journey to Paris had only just begun. The streets were a bustling hive of artistic expression, teeming with dancers of all stripes and colours. Street dance performances spilled into every nook and cranny of the city. From graceful ballets to dynamic hip hop crews, each dance had its unique style and charm. The energy was infectious! I was hooked by this passionate mix of talent.

For this magical night, I put on my new tutu – a whimsical delight of rose pink tulle – and let the music flow through me. I danced, spinning and leaping in Paris’ golden light, and in my heart I knew - it was time for a big reveal! I wanted to share this vibrant spectacle with the whole world, so I gathered around me all those who danced, and with a joyful, twirling leap, I announced my goal: “I am here, on October 10th, 2017, in Paris, to share the beauty of ballet! Join me! We will travel together in the time-bending fashion, let us all embrace the enchantment of a pink tutu! “

The streets of Paris erupted with joyful chaos. It was magical!

And as my pink tutu leotard began to glimmer, and the city lights pulsed in rhythm with the sound of joyous applause, I felt this deep satisfaction that was beyond words, beyond joy - the knowledge that I’d just started a ballet revolution!

With a bittersweet wave goodbye, I was back in my Derbyshire kitchen. But in the world of leotard history, my heart still skipped a beat – this Paris adventure, this 10th of October 2017, will forever remain in my memories. For this was a journey filled with the power of creativity, the magic of a pink tutu, and the universality of dance - the language that speaks without words, and connects hearts.

Tune in next month, my lovely readers! My pink leotard awaits its next grand adventure! Until then, embrace the world in pink, my lovelies!

Yours, Emma
