As you know, each month I slip into my trusty, oh-so-sparkly pink time-travel leotard, take a leap into the past, and explore the history of leotard fashion. Today, my journey takes me to July 2018, the world of leotard fashion, where trends are swirling like a ballet dancer's pirouette!
Oh darling, what a thrilling journey it was! I was simply bursting with excitement to discover the exciting leotard world of July 2018. And let me tell you, fashion was simply positively dazzling!
Now, the 2018 leotard scene was a real mix of vintage revivalism and bold new styles. Think vintage ballet wear, but reimagined with a modern twist. Think strappy bodices, mesh inserts, and those ultra-flattering, high-cut legs, perfectly accentuating those graceful ballet curves. It was, dare I say it, utterly captivating!
And then, there was the return of the classic leotard. Gone were the days of overly ornate designs - it was all about simplicity, elegance, and comfort, allowing those stunning, intricate dance moves to shine through. Imagine clean lines, elegant colour palettes, and beautifully textured fabrics. Simply sublime, darlings!
Think, for instance, those sleek, one-piece beauties made from the softest lycra – a timeless leotard classic. They had everything - comfort, stretch, and a little bit of drama thrown in with a splash of bold colour.
Of course, no exploration of leotard fashion would be complete without mentioning the tutus. Oh my goodness, darling, 2018 had so many delightful variations, it was like stepping onto the stage of a whimsical fairy tale! There were tulle - short and flirty, or long and flowing, all depending on the mood and the dance style. The styles were whimsical and inspiring.
I mean, can you imagine: a blush pink, romantic tutu billowing in the wind, as the ballerina dances through a summery landscape? Or a crisp white tutu, a perfect statement piece for a grand ballet spectacle? The world was your oyster!
And then, there were the street-style performances, a joyous blur of colour and creativity. The leotard, a true chameleon of the fashion world, was used as the perfect starting point for expressing individuality. Think leotards paired with denim jackets, leggings, even dresses – creating looks that were both stylish and practical.
The dance scene of July 2018 really was all about freedom of expression – and you know, I can really relate to that. It's like that feeling you get when you slip on your favourite pink tutu – instantly, you feel empowered, ready to conquer the world. Just like the leotards themselves.

But oh my dear, if there was one shade stealing the spotlight, it had to be the one and only pink.
I was in my element, surrounded by pink hues of all shades: baby pink, magenta, coral, the whole spectrum was there! Just what every pink tutu loving ballerina wants to see.
My heart did a little happy dance, just seeing how many styles were on show. The world of leotards in July 2018 really did showcase the diversity of leotards in fashion – a joyful celebration of individuality and movement, just as I love!
You know, I really have to mention the wonderful stores that were making leotards accessible and fun! There were independent shops, small studios, and big-name brands all working together to inspire and create. It felt like a real community, a melting pot of styles and creativity.
I particularly enjoyed a visit to one boutique filled to the brim with leotards in all shades and shapes. The walls were adorned with shimmering fabrics, the scent of tulle filled the air – a little piece of leotard paradise!
I spent a good few hours lost in the glorious chaos of it all, picking out favourites, getting inspiration, and feeling oh so excited by the creativity and energy I found in that small but magical space.
One of my favourite discoveries in July 2018 was a street ballet performance in a bustling city square. There was a group of young dancers, their pink tutus twirling in the wind, their leotards a mix of vintage and modern, all united by the passion for their craft. It was simply dazzling – the combination of talent, energy and joy was truly inspiring.
