Oh my goodness, can you believe it’s been another month already? Time just flies when you’re zipping through the centuries in your sparkling pink time-traveling leotard! This month, I’m stepping into the fabulous world of August 2018. It’s a time of such diverse leotard styles! Let's dive in and explore some highlights.
Before I head off on my fashion escapades, I want to say a big thank you to all you lovely readers who’ve been tuning in each month. Your enthusiasm is just the motivation I need to keep finding the most amazing leotards and stories from across history. Remember, my dearest followers, the best thing about leotards is that they suit absolutely everyone. We can celebrate the diversity of leotards, all different shapes, colours, lengths, fabrics - it truly is for all of us, every size, shape, and style. And of course, let's never forget our most loyal friend – the pink tutu. This month I’m going to be dancing in this fluffy dream of a tutu, I'll pop a few photos on the blog soon.
And before we set off to explore August 2018, I simply must share some news – the summer shows have been absolutely breathtaking! My dance card’s been full! From the classical ballet in London to some truly inspiring contemporary pieces in Paris, I've seen it all, and trust me, my fellow leotard enthusiasts, this is the season to soak it all in!
Speaking of my time-travelling exploits, I’m off to a very special destination this month. In the bustling world of August 2018, the leotard is taking centre stage in ways you can only imagine! Remember, I fund my time travels through street ballet performances, which gives me such a great view of the most stylish outfits being worn. This month’s time travels will give me a taste of leotard fashion and dance in America and Japan.
First Stop: New York City – A Dance on Broadway!
My first time travel port of call is New York City. What a fashion powerhouse! In this incredible melting pot of style, the leotard shines brightly in its diverse forms! Of course, there's a definite Broadway feel - imagine sparkling crystals, sleek cuts, and a healthy dose of theatrical drama! We see lots of beautiful full-bodied leotards paired with a bold makeup look, so striking, yet elegant, think high hair and a classic red lip - a dramatic dance, and bold performance. What a delightful mix! I even caught a glimpse of a talented street performer showcasing a beautiful one-shoulder, deep V leotard, complete with stunning rhinestones – now that’s what I call high street fashion!
Next stop: Tokyo, Japan – A Trip Through The Neon Streets!
Oh Tokyo! Your unique style is legendary, my love. My latest trip landed me right in the heart of Tokyo. It was as if the world of leotard fashion was reborn with a blend of contemporary dance, avant-garde designs, and a touch of Anime fantasy. The leotards I witnessed had the most dazzling fabrics - you can really feel the Japanese flair. One particular outfit, worn by a dancer near the Shibuya Crossing, really stole my heart. It was a light pink leotard, completely covered in delicate floral embellishments, with a shimmering sheer tutu - oh my, I'm blushing just thinking about it!
I must confess, darling, this travel was rather magical. Just watching these dancers, even just on the streets, made me realise how incredibly diverse and beautiful leotards truly are. Each country offers its own take on the style – but each of them is just bursting with character, imagination, and creativity!

Sheer Fabrics: Lightweight, see-through fabrics are creating that romantic and ethereal look - oh so whimsical! Think layers of tulle, silk, and chiffons dancing in the breeze, especially when I put on my gorgeous pink tutu, they float just as if in a cloud of pink.

I'm rather in love with a pink geometric design! Imagine sharp angular lines with little stars or diamonds… oh, it makes my head spin with joy!

A sprinkle of skin peeks through on the back or side, adding a subtle hint of boldness, making for a daring, and yet surprisingly elegant look. I find this one so playful! Just think of how lovely the pink colour would be shown through these little gaps.
