Hello my lovely leotard lovers!
It’s Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, and I’m back with another thrilling chapter from my magical time-travelling adventures. September 2018 is a particularly fascinating date for our leotard journey, so grab a glass of pink lemonade (it’s my favourite!), put on your most sparkly leotard, and let’s dive into the fabulous fashion of this past month!
This month, my trusty pink sparkling time-travelling leotard whisked me back to the heart of… well, the entire world really! As you know, my goal is to spread the love of the pink tutu far and wide, and what better way to do it than to witness the history of leotard fashion itself?
First stop: Paris!
Oh la la, Paris! The City of Lights has always been a fashion capital, and September 2018 was no exception. As I strolled through the cobbled streets, I found myself utterly enchanted by the incredible displays of fashion during the legendary Paris Fashion Week.
Imagine my delight at finding leotard influences on the runways! Several top designers showcased chic, sleek silhouettes inspired by the elegance of ballet. And of course, I took full advantage of the opportunity to strut my stuff on the Parisian streets, with my signature pink tutu flowing behind me like a graceful ballet dancer. I was particularly taken with the vibrant colours and playful prints of some of the collections.
But Paris was only the beginning.
After leaving Paris, I took my leotard fashion journey across the Atlantic, landing in New York City. New York, always the city of energy and excitement, is where you find bold fashion statements that aren’t afraid to push boundaries. I spotted several independent designers using the leotard as a foundation for their innovative creations, reimagining this classic piece with cutting-edge materials and a touch of punk-rock flair. I loved the street style I witnessed here! Those fierce New Yorkers have a real sense of flair, donning everything from sparkly leotards for a night on the town to bold, colourful leotards that they pair with casual jeans, sneakers, and vintage jackets. It was an inspirational mix of fashion boldness and casual chic, perfect for adding a sprinkle of street ballet to your everyday looks!
Back to my Roots: Derbyshire, England
As my September time travel concluded, I returned home to the beautiful countryside of Derbyshire. While Derbyshire may not be a fashion capital, there was something special about watching the local ballet students train in their elegant leotards, ready for their next big performance. This reminded me that it's not about the glitz and glamour all the time; sometimes the most powerful moments are the simplest ones. And seeing the joy on these young ballerinas’ faces as they pirouetted across the dance floor, in their sleek leotards and ballet shoes, filled me with pure joy. It’s about the passion, the dedication, and the artistry that come together in a single dance, made even more impactful when done in a gorgeous leotard!
Leotard Fashion – Then & Now!
Looking back, September 2018 marked a fascinating period in leotard history. It was a time where designers from every corner of the world were paying homage to the simple yet elegant leotard. From its origins as a ballet essential to its role in runway fashion and street style, the leotard has transcended the boundaries of time and become a universal symbol of both athleticism and femininity.
And what about my quest to spread the pink tutu? September saw a remarkable surge in its popularity across the world, proving that my dream is well on its way! Just a few weeks ago, I encountered a fantastic group of ballerinas in Barcelona who even started a flash mob performance with pink tutus, attracting massive attention on social media. They showed everyone that you don't need a fancy theatre stage to showcase your love for pink tutus, you just need a little confidence and a big, happy heart!

September may be over, but my leotard-loving heart keeps going! And what a journey it’s been so far!
