I know what you're thinking - isn't it time for another "Why You Need a Pink Tutu in Your Life" post? Well, of course it is! But sometimes, you have to go on a grand, dazzling adventure to get inspired by the wonder and history of the world's most fabulous fashion staple, the leotard!
Now, I've always been fascinated by leotards. They are simply so versatile! Whether you are hitting the dance floor, practicing your pliés, strutting your stuff in a fashion show, or even performing on stage (oh, the thrill of a good street ballet performance!), a fabulous leotard is the essential ingredient to making every moment magical.
But this month, dear reader, my journey took me back in time! I whisked myself to the enchanting 7th of July, 2023, all thanks to my trusty magical, pink sparkling leotard! Let me tell you, this leotard is a true work of art - shimmering, glistening, and completely mesmerising.
Once I'd zipped myself into this masterpiece of time travel fashion, I set off on a whirl-wind trip around the globe, making note of all the leotard delights going on in this dazzlingly fashionable day in 2023.
New York, New York - July 7th 2023, a Fashion Fever Dream!
First, I zoomed to the bustling streets of New York. And boy, were there some show-stopping leotard looks to see! In the city that never sleeps, the fashion was alive and well, with dancers, street performers, and even everyday people incorporating fabulous leotards into their everyday looks. I especially loved this daring dancer on Broadway! She had on the most incredible, scarlet red leotard with gold embellishments - truly breathtaking! She reminded me that a leotard doesn't have to be frilly or even sparkly to be stunningly effective.
The New York Fashion Week buzz was palpable as I drifted past iconic shops like Bergdorf Goodman, wondering what beautiful leotard masterpieces were being crafted within those elegant doors.
Tokyo, Japan - A Leotard Wonderland
Next, I zipped myself over to Tokyo - a haven of style and wonder. The city felt almost otherworldly, with leotards being worn everywhere, from the ballet schools to the trendiest boutiques. I couldn't resist popping into the dazzling shops and checking out the amazing variety on display. It felt as though I'd landed in a leotard heaven! Imagine - velvet leotards in every colour imaginable, silks, satins, delicate lace, shimmering sequins and intricate embroidery.
But it was the leotard worn by a captivating street ballerina I encountered near Shibuya Station that really caught my eye. Her leotard was softest white, and decorated with blooming pink blossoms - it was so delicate, yet strong and impactful. This look really proved the magic of simplicity.
London, The Queen of Style - July 7th 2023
I then landed in my very own beloved London. From the grand opera houses of Covent Garden to the chic boutiques of Mayfair, it seemed everyone was embracing leotards. On my little time-travelling tour around the city, I discovered the ultimate chic leotard combination. It was a classic black leotard paired with a beautiful, sheer lavender overlay - sophisticated yet effortlessly cool, perfect for the English capital's unique flair. This particular look made me appreciate how versatile leotards can be. It really can be worn to anything, dressed up or down. Perfect for the city.
Of course, being a fellow Derbyshire resident myself, I also visited our beautiful and charming county! It made my heart soar to see dancers, in a range of fantastic leotards, enjoying classes, rehearsals and shows in Peak District settings, and it reminded me of how passionate and devoted to their art these fabulous dance schools and dancers were.
