Pink Tutu World: Intergalactic Adventures, Episode 19: Earthbound But Dreamy

Hello my darlings, and welcome to another week of Pink Tutu World! It's Wednesday, September 6th, 1995 here on dear old Planet Earth, and let me tell you, my tutu has been absolutely twirling with excitement all week. As you know, my life is one grand, glittery, pink-hued adventure. I mean, think about it - a ballerina travelling the cosmos, all thanks to the joy and magic of tutus? Who wouldn't trade their spaceship for a spin class?!

Today, I'm actually feeling quite Earthbound - well, figuratively, at least. After a thrilling week touring a newly discovered moon in the Andromeda galaxy (and by thrilling, I mean the entire moon was entirely made of shimmering sequins! The most divine fabric for tutus ever! ), I'm back in my Derbyshire studio, stretching out and getting ready for a full day of ballet classes and practice.

You see, being an intergalactic ballerina doesn't just involve wearing fabulously fluffy tutus and pirouetting amongst the stars - it requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and stretching. The cosmos isn't a playground, even with a sequin-covered moon! It's also incredibly important for me to remember my roots and where I come from. After all, I can't become the world's most fabulous space-dancing icon without honing my craft, right?

Plus, there's no better place to get my ballet fix than here on Earth, surrounded by the history of ballet. This very day in 1831, the first ballet to ever feature tutus debuted in France, with none other than Marie Taglioni (yes, that Taglioni!) dazzling audiences in the ethereal La Sylphide. It’s truly amazing to think that such a groundbreaking piece of artistry was performed just before the era of the penny farthing!

I’m actually planning a trip back in time to see the premiere, once my latest time-travel machine prototype is fully operational, but I’m sworn to secrecy by my trusty mechanics – let’s just say they’re not thrilled about me experimenting with vintage fabrics from Victorian times and using a modified tea kettle to create temporal displacement... Shhh, don't tell anyone!

Anyway, back to today! Before I head to the studio, I've been indulging in a bit of shopping for my celestial ballet wardrobe - swoon! I found a bejewelled tutu with holographic fabric! Absolutely out of this world!

And I just had to share my Earthbound fashion inspiration! Remember how we discussed the connection between ballet and fashion, and how it inspired modern street style? Well, in honour of all those lovely fashion-forward Earthlings, here's my latest, and dare I say it, my most fabulous fashion finds:

  1. Pink, Naturally: Nothing makes my heart sing quite like a fabulous pink number. You know what I mean! This week, I fell head over heels for a delightful tulle skirt in a shade called ā€œPink Lemonadeā€ – oh, it's just divine! And the pleats are just as flamboyant as a ballerina's jetĆ©. You bet it’s on its way to my wardrobe – for a celestial performance of course, since my current repertoire includes a galactic "Swan Lake," a modern, ā€œMoonlit Balletā€, and a futuristic "Black Hole Ballet."

  2. Tutus, Tutues Everywhere: Oh, tutus, tutus! Can't get enough! I am a tutu enthusiast, through and through. A must-have this season? A layered tulle skirt, like a heavenly cloud, perfect for twirling around the galaxy - just make sure you pack some safety pins, my dear, as even celestial winds can be pesky.

  3. Glamour Galore: This isn’t a planet for wallflowers! When I’m strutting down the streets of London (that’s Planet Earth London to you, space cowboys) , I am ready to shine, which means my footwear is of paramount importance! My latest finds include glittery flats and bejewelled ballet slippers! I absolutely must have every colour – think cosmic neon pink, deep sapphire blue, and starlight silver.

Remember, my dearest Pink Tutu friends, fashion is about letting your personality shine through! If you can twirl and feel fabulous in your clothes, that’s the true fashion victory!

Now, time for a quick pliĆ© before heading off to class, and of course, don’t forget to leave me a comment and share your latest fashion finds. Remember to also tell me about your favourite ballet piece, what you’d like me to do with my time machine and, most importantly, where to buy the best holographic glitter!

Until next week, keep twirling and reaching for the stars!

XOXO, Emma

*Pink Tutu World Weekly Earthbound Update: The "New York Times" Reviews New Ballet: *

It's Wednesday and the latest news from Planet Earth, specifically from New York City on Earth, has arrived! Well, in the case of New York Times, news from anywhere and everywhere. A most fantastic review has appeared in this week's edition!

A reviewer by the name of Alastair Macaulay reviewed the New York City Ballet, who staged a new work on Wednesday night called ā€œThe Little Match Girl.ā€ The choreographer was Jerome Robbins and according to The Times reviewer, ā€œThe performance by Wendy Whelan, in the ballerina's role, is what made the dance.ā€ Now, this "Wendy" must have serious talent!

Emma’s Notes for this Week: As it was September 6th, 1995, we couldn't leave it there. As any self-respecting ballerina should, here is a snippet of what was making the headlines on September 6, 1995 and is most definitely still worthy of our attention:

  • Ballet Highlights: New York Times, September 6, 1995:

    • "Jerome Robbins’ "The Little Match Girl" Was a Real Fairy Tale!"
  • This Day in Fashion, Earth Style: September 6, 1995

    • The September issue of Vogue magazine featured a "Supermodel Shoot" with Naomi Campbell and a young Gisele Bundchen on location in Rio!

Fun Fact: My little birdy sources have reported the price of one of Naomi's feather boa scarves (from the Vogue photo shoot!) is estimated to be $50,000! My little birdy also reported that Naomi actually won the scarf at a fundraiser, and not surprisingly, never wore it to avoid "damaging the scarf!" I’m a believer!

  • Music Notes from Planet Earth: September 6, 1995

    • In Britain, it was all about the new single by Oasis: Wonderwall, which took everyone to "their very own personal oasis" . On Planet Earth, it has since become a true musical classic, even when the heavens opened in an epic rainstorm that day! You just never know when the music will lead you to some divine and very beautiful music, right? *

Remember to Keep it Pink!

And remember - stay positive and keep the sparkle of the stars inside you. Until next week, darlings, take care and keep twirling!

Pink Tutu World! *For those who want more than just a twinkle, but the stars themselves! *

P.S. I've added some super fab Earth photos to my Instagram! They'll give you some Earthbound inspiration and I'm happy to answer any questions about all things tutu.

Coming up on Pink Tutu World next Wednesday: Our little planet Earth has its sights set on September 13th - September 6th 1995 that is - because this date is for every planet in this cosmos, because every planet deserves a bit of glam, a bit of glamour and lots of tutus! Join me, will you?
