#PinkTutuWorld Ballet on Planet Earth on 1995-11-01

Pink Tutu World: Post Number 27 - Planet Earth, November 1st, 1995

Oh darling, what a day! I woke up this morning with a pink tutu firmly nestled in my dreams, and when I say firmly, I mean firmly. It felt like I’d been sleeping in a ballet skirt of swirling pink silk, a vision of sugar plums and pirouettes. A pretty accurate reflection of my real life, honestly!

So here I am, back on Planet Earth after another thrilling intergalactic escapade. This week's adventure has taken me to the far reaches of Andromeda, where I finally got my hands on a vintage pink tutu from the Ballet-Botticelli collection. Think swirling, gossamer-light fabric, delicate layers, and the tiniest, most gorgeous embroidered roses – talk about a dream! It took a little negotiation with a particularly flamboyant alien ballet dancer (they wear very specific shades of green in that corner of the cosmos), but I managed to score a sweet deal! I can’t wait to showcase it on Pink-Tutu.com - a true vintage treasure for my collection.

Speaking of collections, I managed to snag a couple of amazing, rare ballet history books in Andromeda too! The Galactic Guild of Ballerina Archives held the most extraordinary collection, featuring handwritten dance manuscripts, original posters from ancient dance spectacles, and even sketches from one of the earliest interstellar ballerinas - imagine the grace, darling! The stories they told were just breath-taking. One of the books described a time when dancing was forbidden on Mars and only carried out in secret. A daring ballerina from Alpha Centauri, named Lyra (wasn't she divine!), staged a massive, moonlit performance under a glowing Martian moon. Talk about pushing the boundaries, she practically invented ballet-themed underground resistance! Now, that’s what I call making a statement in your pink tutu, darling!

You might be thinking, “Emma, what on earth were you doing all the way out in Andromeda?” Well, darling, it was all about research! This weekend, Planet Earth is holding a grand celebration of the world's most iconic ballerina – our very own, Diana Ashley, the legend of British Ballet! Her performance history is practically a guidebook for any aspiring dancer, and my latest spaceship voyage was all about piecing together her earliest influences and capturing the essence of her artistry. You've got to hand it to those intergalactic archives, haven't you? All those dusty scrolls actually tell a story better than any gossip magazine!

And to think, here on good ol' Planet Earth, they’re holding an entire exhibition dedicated to Diana Ashley! Can you imagine? A whole hall devoted to her shimmering tutus, exquisite costumes, and iconic choreography! Talk about an overload of tulle! I have to confess, even though I’m a notorious globetrotter, I’m incredibly excited to be back in dear old England for this, my darlings! Not only will I be witnessing Diana Ashley’s history come alive in the exhibition, but I'll also be catching a live performance of Swan Lake featuring my absolute favourite prima ballerina, the dazzling Natalia Krasnova! There's simply no comparison to the thrill of live performance, you know what I mean? The feeling of the music rising up, those perfectly pointed shoes, and the swirling beauty of Swan Lake – pure magic! It’s truly the best kind of therapy, wouldn't you say?

And speaking of Swan Lake, my research has revealed a truly captivating story about its earliest performance, right here on Planet Earth, in London! Imagine a swirling stage, elegant gaslight, and a vibrant crowd anticipating a captivating show. There were just a handful of ballerinas at the time who even considered en pointe dancing, and it's no wonder – those were shoes practically designed for falling over, let's be honest! But this ballerina, her name escapes me at this moment – anyway, she defied the norm. They say she practically glided on air with every graceful movement. Imagine the courage, the conviction, the absolute sheer joy radiating off this beautiful creature! They say that's when the world truly discovered ballet's transformative power. A tale that, truly, inspires my own path, darling!

Now, I’ll have to admit, I haven't managed to source a pair of original Swan Lake tutus - the collection's vanished somewhere within the great cosmic dustbin. Alas, I just wasn't fast enough on that trip to Alpha Centauri! However, never fear, darling, I've unearthed an absolute gem at the Theatre Emporium! It's a hand-beaded, shimmering white and black creation, with a delicate, flowing design that I simply had to have.

And to make this already fantastic trip even more fantastic, guess where I am? That's right, London, darlings, home of so many exciting sights and sounds! I’ve already enjoyed a splendid breakfast at the most charming café in Notting Hill - did you know they serve these magnificent pink grapefruit pastries with a dash of sparkling elderflower cordial? I think I might go back for another just now! After all, London's always buzzing, and it’s definitely worth spending an afternoon wandering the boutiques on Bond Street, a perfect opportunity for indulging in some retail therapy. Honestly, darlings, these London stores are a kaleidoscope of colours and fabrics. I haven't yet seen anything quite as delightful on other planets. Oh, how I love shopping!

But don't let me ramble, my darlings! We have a lot to discuss – and a pink tutu explosion to enjoy, of course! This weekend, as you all know, is dedicated to celebrating Diana Ashley. You wouldn’t believe the number of events happening - from master classes at the Royal Opera House to private ballet-themed dinners, this whole city will be twirling! And it's not just a dance-fest, you know! The best part is that even non-dancers get swept up in the excitement. I can just see all the glamorous ladies strolling down Oxford Street, a sprinkle of tulle here, a sprinkle of chiffon there - all in pink, of course, for a little touch of Diana Ashley’s glamour!

I, of course, will be showcasing my latest vintage tutu collection – and trust me, it’s absolutely divine! Just wait until you see the exquisite vintage silk creations! Every colour, every detail, every swirl of tulle is simply enchanting! My goal is to transform London into a whirl of tulle and glamour this weekend! Come along, my lovelies, I’m bringing all my ‘pink tutu-infused joy’ right into the heart of the city.

In the meantime, do pop on over to Pink-Tutu.com to see the amazing vintage ballet treasures I've gathered from my adventures!

Lots of Love and Tutu Twirls,
