Hello, darlings! It's Emma, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, beaming back at you from a rather extraordinary trip to, wait for it... Planet Earth!
Yes, you heard that right, the dusty, old, quaint place they tell you stories about on this cosmic soap opera called the 'internet'! After weeks of cosmic ballet performances that could make a supernova blush, my trusty spaceship (she's a real beauty, nicknamed 'Tutuspace') landed smack-dab in the heart of England!
Before I even started exploring, my dear Granny Beryl from Derbyshire, who still insists I’m a "right proper lass" even though I’ve been gallivanting around the galaxy since my early twenties, sent me a vintage 1950s tea set and a hefty stack of “Best of British” biscuits (oh the crumbs!). So I settled into my cozy cottage (granny had the house converted into a spaceship launch pad – bless her heart!) and got stuck in. I mean, tea is literally tea time wherever you go!
Now, I know you've all heard about Earth - I certainly have from the spaceship drivers in the interstellar truck stop and a certain highly renowned, yet terribly melodramatic, gossip mag, Space Weekly. Apparently, Earth's "quite popular these days!" The cosmic buzz says they're "making a comeback!" Now, don't get me wrong, darlings, I love Earth! It’s a bit dusty and it does have its issues (where did they find that "pop" music?!) But as a tutu-wearing traveller, there's an irresistible magic to this planet!
Here's why Earth's so fabulous... (apart from granny’s biscuits, obviously):
The Theatre! Oh darling! London’s theatre scene – my goodness, they take their theatrics seriously here! The Royal Opera House, now there's an establishment! I snagged a prime seat in the Royal Circle – imagine the gossip I heard! But let’s not be dramatic; the performance of Swan Lake was phenomenal, even in these 'Earth' tights! It reminded me why ballet's my forever love – the passion, the elegance, and, of course, the magnificent tutus. There are rumours of another little tutu treasure they call The Nutcracker, apparently a true Christmas tradition here. Maybe next December, darlings, but only if I find a fantastic sequined reindeer costume to wear in the audience. (Any designers out there, please let me know!)
Fashion! Oh darling, I love shopping! I practically lived in Harrods for the week, soaking up the vibrant, trendy fashion – they’ve got amazing vintage stores! I even discovered an incredible, sparkling sequined tutus boutique with some pretty cool contemporary tutus that really knocked my socks off. I must admit, I got carried away and might have bought the whole shop. You're welcome. The most exciting news of the week: a new collection inspired by “classic ballerina styling!” Oh, the possibilities, darlings!
Dancing! My first stop had to be London, naturally, home to the Royal Ballet. But don't even get me started on the sheer joy of watching ballet street performances right there in the heart of Covent Garden! I could feel the spirit of dance coursing through the veins of this old, dusty, quaint city! Trafalgar Square, now that was truly breathtaking, seeing these dancers perform in the shadows of those historic structures – sheer magic! I had the strongest urge to leap into the square and join in – maybe another day...
The History! My first journey outside of London led me to a tiny village, Stratford-Upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Apparently, they write about dancing here! Really! Can you imagine the tutu possibilities?! Imagine a new show of "Romeo and Juliet" with Romeo wearing an adorable black tutu! A little extra pizzazz to spice things up, hehe! But Shakespeare wasn’t my only destination. The Palace of Westminster, The Houses of Parliament – just beautiful! You’ve heard about those crazy little creatures on earth called ‘politicians’, haven’t you? Well, it turns out they still think in suits! I tried to tell them all about tutus and the magical power of dancing. No luck.
A Little Culture From history to fashion, and everything in between – I took it all in! This planet truly has an endless bounty of culture, traditions, and delicious…wait … Oh! I nearly forgot to mention the FOOD!! Darlings, if you’re planning an intergalactic visit, I insist you eat your fill of this delectable “pudding" called Trifle, a masterpiece of delicious layered goodness, or a truly extraordinary “curry" in Brick Lane.
Now for today’s adventures, June 26th, 1996!
What to Expect: Well, after an evening of delightful “Trifle”, followed by some delicious curries in Brick Lane, I've decided to check out the trendy new ballet classes everyone's been raving about in Shoreditch! Apparently, they have a street dance element to it! We shall see… Perhaps street style will be en vogue in tutus next year! Stay tuned! I shall, of course, document this for all of you lovely Pink Tutu World followers!
