Darling readers,
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu World post, straight from my latest planetary adventure! As you all know, I'm a bit obsessed with tutus and everything ballet-related. You'll rarely see me without my trusty pink tutu, and my little pink spaceship (it even has its own pink tutu on the back!).
This week, I found myself back on planet Earth - you know, the little blue marble with all the delicious fish and chips (not to mention all the glorious ballet!) - and oh my, did I have a wonderful time! It's been a few months since my last visit, and so much has happened! The humans are just as adorable as ever, with their quirky costumes and crazy dance moves. I adore their unique cultural rituals and celebrations!
What’s in Store?
As always, this blog post is bursting with ballet excitement. Think amazing performances, glamorous shopping adventures, and a little bit of tutu history! And who knows, maybe even a fashion show thrown in for good measure. But before I dive into all the fun, let's talk about why I'm so thrilled to be back on Earth!
It's the 5th of November, which for the Earthly humans is... oh, what’s it called? Fireworks night. Yes, it's the annual fireworks display - an event with so much dazzling sparkle and beautiful light, which is my favourite kind of show! The air here is a magical concoction of smells and colours; the fireworks make such pretty shapes in the night sky and they're almost as exciting as watching a ballet performance! (Although, my darlings, we all know there’s nothing more thrilling than a spectacular pirouette!)
The Royal Ballet
Now, let's chat ballet!
I popped down to London, which, you all know, is practically the epicentre of dance on planet Earth! The human beings in the English capital really do understand the magic of ballet. This week, they were all buzzing with excitement as The Royal Ballet opened their autumn season with The Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House. Naturally, I couldn’t miss it! The performances were exquisite. This classic ballet, with its iconic costumes, romantic story, and breathtaking technical feats, is a timeless treasure! I particularly loved the final grand pas de deux between Aurora and her Prince, oh how graceful and enchanting they were! It took me back to the days when ballet first swept across the galaxy – the first ballerinas wearing tutus… Oh, wouldn’t it have been wonderful to be there at that time!
The Ballet & Tutu History Corner
Speaking of history, we simply must dive into the fabulous world of tutus!
You know how I love history. But I have to confess to a little bit of a history obsession: the history of the tutu. The origin of the tutu is almost as interesting as its impact on the world of ballet! The first "tutu," or tutu-like garment actually began life in the 1830s. It's said the renowned ballerina Maria Taglioni was the first to dance in this form of dress. A real revolutionary act, my dears, with the dancer’s legs flowing gracefully with almost no weight on the ankles! It completely changed how audiences looked at ballerinas. There was such beauty and artistry in its lightness and form, it made dancers look so heavenly - almost celestial. Now that's the kind of history I want to dance with!
After Maria Taglioni’s innovation, it didn't take long for the tutu to become a dance staple across Europe, and later, throughout the globe! You'll find it even here on Earth - and as always, I make sure that wherever I go, a little bit of Pink Tutu magic is included.
My Dance Class
On a less grand scale than The Royal Ballet, I always make time to squeeze in a dance class or two during my visits. Let’s just say that I’ve managed to get many a human to adopt the Tutu. And I must say that some of them have some hidden talents - who would have known? I think I will be sending them to see the Royal Ballet soon, my dears.
One particular class made me giggle: it was an adult beginner’s ballet class. So many humans came along, so many laughs and even some accidental tutus when one enthusiastic human tried to turn, they tripped and the other participant had a near tutu situation when they nearly hit the ground. What's life without a little mishap?
Anyway, my little loves, the most important thing for me is that these beginners enjoyed themselves! I mean, what’s better than putting on a tutu and leaping and twirling to some fabulous music! It doesn’t matter if it's technically perfect (although I always try to make a splash with a flawless grand jeté - for I was trained at The Ballet Academy - it's right next door to The Royal Academy, though, whispers I think mine is a little better!).
A Touch of Pink
Every one of these class participants deserved a sparkly Pink Tutu, my darlings. Because for me, pink isn't just a color - it's an attitude, it's a feeling!
Here on planet Earth, the human love of color is very special, though I always struggle to understand how they don’t wear more pink! Maybe it's because pink has been, gasp, a controversial color on Earth! For centuries it’s been a bit underdog in the colour department.
So, it’s my personal mission to help change that perception. I know I may be a bit biased as the queen of pink (it just adds that extra touch of sparkle), but pink is one of the most joyful colours there is, with such powerful energy! So you’ll always find me in something pink, a pink dress or a pink skirt or…you guessed it! my pink tutu! I will even go as far as to say that every human on this planet would be a lot happier wearing a little pink!
I love going to ballet classes on this planet; there's nothing more wonderful than dancing the afternoon away, especially in my pink tutu! Every pirouette and every arabesque seems a little bit more special in a pink tutu! But I never travel without my ballet shoe cases…
I even do a spot of ballet shopping when I’m in a city like London. You see, ballet dancers are incredibly strong! I've watched these humans glide, twist, leap and jump with such grace and poise! So many times, it looks as if they defy gravity - incredible strength! They do look truly amazing. But I can assure you they need to look fabulous too, which is where ballet clothes shopping comes into the mix. So, there’s nothing more exciting for a girl on a space trip than a little fashion show and dancewear store visit! You could say my passion is both balletic and fashion based. My aim, my dear readers, is to get everyone in the galaxy to embrace the pink tutu… one tutu at a time!
What's Next?
My planet-hopping journey continues, and I can’t wait to tell you all about my future adventures.
Of course, there will be plenty more pink tutus, breathtaking ballet performances and even more fabulous shopping sprees - that’s what I love best.
If you want to follow me on my cosmic voyage, pop over to www.pink-tutu.com where I post weekly, every Wednesday at the same time, for all you pink tutu enthusiasts.
For now, darlings, remember to always twirl and pirouette your way through life!
Until next week,
Love,
Emma xx
PS: The planet Earth has its own form of "space travel"! Humans love to take holiday trips. They travel in amazing flying machines…some are big enough to carry thousands of people and others just take one or two people on a special outing! I thought it would be quite amusing if they added a Pink Tutu trip for all those special occasion events... Imagine how lovely all these trips would be! Perhaps next time, I'll give this a go! What do you think, darlings?
