Hello my dearest Pink Tutu World followers! It’s Emma here, writing to you from Planet Earth, a little corner of the Milky Way Galaxy where it seems everyone’s got a little bit of the tutu bug! This week's blog post is coming to you extra sparkly and fabulous because I’m feeling particularly full of joie de vivre, having just returned from an absolutely stunning trip to…wait for it…Mars!
Before I dive into my Martian adventures, let me tell you that today's post feels a little bit extra special because, as I write this, we're heading towards the end of 1997, and I'm officially ending the year on Planet Earth.
Can you believe it? Another year whizzed by, and what a year it was! I’ve toured the world from Derbyshire, where I'm originally from, to the vast plains of Argentina and the dazzling lights of Tokyo. This week has been all about Martian moonwalks and getting a real feel for the local scene, and I’m dying to share all the fun details!
It’s been a long journey to reach the Red Planet (longer than a hop-skip-and-a-jump on my sparkly rocket, to be exact!), but it’s always a dream come true to see new sights and share the wonder of the universe with all of you. Plus, it doesn't hurt that there are new opportunities for ballet shows on other planets! My passion for dancing has been burning brightly throughout all my adventures, and my most recent performances were in a stunning 3D theatre that seemed to transport me to the clouds, leaving a trail of twinkling, celestial dust in its wake. And my costumes?! Absolutely out-of-this-world fabulous. You’ll have to wait until next week to see photos, but I'm sure they’ll be a welcome addition to my ever-growing "pink tutu around the universe" collection!
Mars, My Mars!
Landing on the Martian surface was such a magical moment, I literally felt a wave of giddy delight. It's the first time I’ve travelled this far outside of the Earth’s solar system, and the scenery, while a little rocky and red, felt surreal. We arrived on Christmas Day and were treated to a stunning performance of the “Nutcracker” by the local ballet company. The costumes were stunning, adorned with metallic red, gold, and copper sequins that glistened like celestial dust against the backdrop of the rusty orange landscape. The sheer spectacle was breathtaking.
Of course, I couldn’t go to Mars without bringing some of my signature style, and my vibrant pink tutu shone brilliantly under the red-tinged skies. The locals found it quite captivating – a breath of fresh air amongst their dusty, rugged fashion!
Now, I can’t reveal too much about Martian culture, but the locals are just as fashionable as everyone else! And the beauty of it is, they embraced my pink tutu with a whole lot of joy.
After the show, the dancers insisted I try their signature Mars treat – “rock candy.” It looks exactly how it sounds (chunks of sugar that resemble, well, rock!), and while it tasted strange at first, the novelty grew on me, especially after I popped some pink candy glitter over the top to add my touch.
Tutu Trendsetting: Fashion From Outer Space
After a day filled with ballet, candy, and lots of chats about their history (a surprisingly sophisticated, ancient civilization), I had the pleasure of visiting their biggest local clothing store. They called it "Stellar Styles", a fitting name, indeed. Although they have an Earthly take on clothing - some really lovely leather and velvet textures, and their take on "casual" is something out of this world – you'll have to check out my new blog next week! The whole vibe felt distinctly 'Star Wars', if that's the term. I was immediately drawn to this intricate velvet bomber jacket with holographic embroidery – you’ll be seeing that beauty in my next fashion post, don’t worry!
Speaking of the fashion side of things, the store had a section entirely dedicated to "pink", in celebration of the cosmic colour that represents optimism and love. This section was a haven for all things bright, a true testament to the growing 'Pink Tutu World' community across the galaxy. I managed to find myself a truly fabulous Martian-themed scarf in shocking pink, which I'm planning to model for all my fellow pink-loving fashionistas in the universe!
Rocket Rides, Food, and Fairs: The Local Charm of Mars
Of course, it wouldn't be a trip to Mars without a little fun. They’ve got these incredible 'rocket ferries' that zoom through the skies, providing breath-taking views of the Martian landscape, and of course, I absolutely had to take a ride! It was an exhilarating experience, quite unlike any travel I’d done on Earth! It really solidified how much I love travel and being able to experience the magic of the universe!
The Martian landscape is surprisingly alive – it’s full of canyons, sand dunes, and even strange but fascinating life forms. The food was definitely an adventure - the Martian staple "Red Rock Rice" was something of an acquired taste, but my travel companion, "Buzz," said it reminds him of Earthly cornbread. As you know, my fellow Pink Tutu World fans, my weakness for colourful treats remains undiminished, and this time it was the 'Rainbow Rock Cakes’ that did it for me. The bright candy coating looked beautiful and tasted sweet, while still having a delicious crunch and a slight hint of "rocky" flavour (if that’s a flavour). It seems like candy is truly universal!
And the pièce de résistance of our time in Mars? The annual 'Cosmic Comet Fair.' It's held in this incredibly vibrant, colourful market that showcases everything the Martian universe has to offer - from celestial crafts and local goods to performances by the local troupe - think a cosmic, interstellar market complete with live music and even the chance to try your hand at intergalactic cooking classes.
The highlight for me was the live performances, especially their unique "Fire-dance show." The dancers wore elaborate outfits, like swirling red and gold gowns and bright orange skirts – they felt a little theatrical, but a little magical too! The Martian equivalent of the Bolshoi or the Royal Opera House, perhaps. I had the privilege of meeting one of the dancers – she even gave me a few moves from her fire dance!
Now, I've seen some incredible dancing around the universe, but the sheer artistry and enthusiasm of this Martian dance show will forever be engraved in my heart! I couldn't leave without learning some of their signature moves and maybe even stealing a little dance inspiration!
And here's a little secret. I got to witness a real "Shooting Star." It was such an awe-inspiring sight! The sky seemed to glow and pulsate as a bright streak streaked through the red and purple dusk – an experience that was both awe-inspiring and absolutely surreal.
Reflecting On The Cosmic Journey
Looking back at my travels through the Milky Way this year, the one thing I’ve realised is that pink tutus are truly the universal language of fashion! I've met all sorts of interesting, friendly people across the universe and found that even on Mars, my signature tutu has helped me create a bond that goes beyond languages and cultures.
As I leave Mars, a part of me already misses its warm colours, fascinating culture, and charming Martian residents. But knowing I’m heading back to Earth, with all its beautiful green trees and buzzing cityscapes, brings me such happiness! I have so many wonderful memories to share and experiences to share – including stories of “Pink Tutu Fashion Fridays,” the highlight of my week back in Derbyshire!
Next week, we’ll have the usual photos of my "Pink Tutu World" adventures on Mars including some incredible outfit close-ups of the local Martian fashions! I’ll be posting all about the dance classes I took with a local ballerina on Mars - who happens to be my new, amazing friend.
Until next week, my lovely followers, keep dancing, keep dreaming, and keep spreading the Pink Tutu joy throughout the universe!
Yours in sparkly, fabulous pink, Emma
