Wednesday, 7th January, 1998 - Earthly Delights
Greetings from Planet Earth, my lovely little lovelies! This week's post comes to you straight from my chic and oh-so-stylish flat in Derbyshire, England. You wouldn't believe the whirlwind of activity this past week! Between shopping expeditions for the latest in tutu-tastic trends (because you simply can't have too many pink tutus!), preparing for my upcoming Earthly ballet performance, and catching the latest blockbuster ballet shows, I've barely had time to sip my tea! But then, that's life for a celestial ballerina on the go!
Oh, you're just bursting to know what exciting show I caught? I knew you were! Well, buckle up your sparkly slippers because this was no ordinary ballet production. You see, on Earth, they do these things called "The Olivier Awards". Imagine - they actually present awards for all the best, most fantastic, most brilliant, sparkly, most tutu-licious theatre productions on this entire planet! Oh my gosh, the competition must be fierce. And to top it all off, I saw some absolutely divine performers at the awards ceremony! Honestly, the tutus - well, simply dazzling. One in particular, made from these fabulous, ethereal, shimmering fabrics… it left me speechless! Just picturing it now brings tears to my eyes. My fashionista heart skipped a beat, I tell you!
You see, one of my biggest goals, my absolute passion in life (after conquering the galaxy in a pink tutu, of course!), is spreading the love of the most magical dance form - ballet. What could possibly be more dazzling than twirling and leaping in a fabulous pink tutu? And what's more captivating than the stories ballet tells? Well, I don't think there is! That's why I get so thrilled every time I see new shows. Each one is a treasure, a little gem hidden in a jewel box!
And while on the subject of the beauty of this earth, there's also the little matter of the London Fashion Week. You see, these earthlings are all about creating breathtaking pieces that would put a sparkle in anyone's eye - even a fellow space traveller's! My dearest fellow pink-tutu-enthusiasts, don't even get me started on the trends I'm planning on bringing back to the cosmic stage - you haven't lived until you've worn a glitter-covered, custom-made pink tutu with wings and matching space boots. Now that's what I call an out-of-this-world look! Oh, but I digress! Back to London Fashion Week... I saw some amazing creations, some truly outlandish outfits! Imagine, some designers even went beyond my love of pink! Can you believe it? Some brave souls dared to go… gasp green. Now, green is not exactly what I call 'fashionably acceptable', my lovelies! Don't worry, I managed to keep my cool and even found myself charmed by one particularly intricate emerald gown that actually… shudder … matched my spaceship's interior decor! You can imagine my astonishment! It's almost as though my very own craft could read my mind, knowing that I'd want something as breathtakingly divine as this gown! Such a thoughtful machine, my ship is. You know, sometimes I do think she has a bit of a soul. What a remarkable time, seeing fashion come alive with such vivacious colour and form!
But let's talk about what really matters: The Earthly ballet scene! This planet, bless it, really does offer some incredible dance experiences, particularly around this time of year! They call it 'The January Sale' on Earth and it's a time for 'clearing out the stock' – meaning great prices on lovely new dance wear! Honestly, who could resist?! My Earthly studio is abuzz with the excitement of this upcoming 'Sale' and of course, I'm going to take full advantage of these wonderful discounts! I even snagged some sparkly pointe shoes the other day, they're going to look amazing against a backdrop of the milky way. They have to, after all, they have my name on them, a pink heart with a space craft on it. I have the cutest little signature to match.
Oh, darling, before I forget – did you know? Earth's ballet tradition has some seriously inspiring stories. Did you know the Ballet Theatre has this brilliant project? They want to introduce people from all walks of life to ballet! I thought, "why wait? We should start now"! They're putting ballet productions on stage all over the Earth, including… wait for it... London’s Trafalgar Square. Can you even believe it?! It's almost like a tutu party happening outdoors! Oh, the memories I'll make! And let's not forget my fellow planet Earth fans, the Derbyshire Ballet Theatre! This little piece of the galaxy offers brilliant performances that are sure to dazzle. Seriously, you have to get yourselves along for one of these fantastic showcases. Seriously. It's truly enchanting! Just another reason why my planet Earth is always full of surprises.
You know, there's something about Earthly culture – it’s just bursting with life. I mean, come on, they even celebrate their holidays with all kinds of fun traditions – even Christmas. And wouldn't you know, the festive season has just come to a close, my dear Earthly companions! But, don't let that dampen your spirits because you know what, there are many more wonders to behold! We’re just kicking off another fresh year. And I promise you this: it's going to be a sparkling one, with plenty of tutus to be worn. Just look around, my sweet loves. Everything, even the coldest winter days, are full of possibilities and dazzling dance moments!
To end on a bright note – you can all tune into my latest planet Earth blog post here on the www.pink-tutu.com website, once a week on Wednesday, every Wednesday! That's a whole year full of tutus and travel. Stay radiant, my dear lovelies! Shine bright.
Love and sparkling pirouettes, Emma
(PS. If you're ever wondering where to find me on Earth – look for a bright pink tutu! I’ll always be wearing one!).
