Pink Tutu World: Planet Earth, Post #217 - A Tutu-tastic Trip Through Time!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-loving travel blogger, Emma, here, reporting live from Planet Earth. As you all know, I simply can't resist a good adventure, especially when it involves travelling to new and exciting worlds! So, pack your sparkly shoes and get ready for another fabulous blog post, this time taking us back to a spectacular time trip on Earth itself!

Now, you know I adore all things pink and sparkly, but I've also got a soft spot for a little bit of history! So when I got the opportunity to journey through Earth's past using a special intergalactic time machine (it was pink of course!) I couldn't resist! I know what you're thinking - how could I possibly leave Planet Earth in search of more pink tutus? But trust me, this trip had a special, magical connection to everything I love!

The date? 1999-06-23, a truly iconic date for both ballet and fashion! This was a time when pop culture was truly at its peak - think Britney Spears in a tiny pink tutu, the Spice Girls strutting in their platform shoes, and even a certain little pink alien girl, making everyone believe. Oh, and let's not forget, it was a mere two weeks before The Lion King musical premiered on Broadway! (You know how much I love a good lion!)

First, a quick stop for a vintage ballet shop on New York's Lower East Side. There, amongst piles of sequined fabric and tutus, I found myself surrounded by treasures! I unearthed a pristine, white tutu, perfectly preserved for over half a century - the one and only tutu worn by Margot Fonteyn in a legendary performance of Swan Lake! You can imagine the goosebumps! I felt so connected to the incredible history of ballet right there.

Next, off to a ballet show in a tiny little village tucked away in Derbyshire, England, the very county I call home. I couldn't resist slipping into the character of a true village-ballet-lover. With my trusty little black tutu bag (oh, the chic-ness!), I headed off for the local community centre - ready to be swept away by the wonder of "The Sleeping Beauty" (even in a local production, the ballet was amazing!). The audience, mostly comprised of friendly, smiling locals, were mesmerized. After the show, I joined the queue for the signature bake sale. I must confess, there was nothing more delightful than a warm Victoria sponge cake after a truly beautiful performance!

Then, a totally unexpected but exciting encounter! I met a lovely old lady, Mrs. Johnson, who revealed herself to be a self-proclaimed “Tutu Queen!” She told me about her life growing up, seeing all the most fabulous ballets and collecting vintage tutus - some even older than the one I found! And as fate would have it, Mrs. Johnson just happened to have a very special, pink tutu, untouched, for over sixty years - perfect for my collection!

Now, my love for all things pink has no boundaries! So it was only natural that I spend a good amount of my time trip at a fabulous department store on Fifth Avenue in New York. The store's pink dress department was breathtaking! A whirlwind of vibrant silk, dazzling beads, and tulle - pure paradise for any tutu-lover like myself. I ended up picking up a delightful vintage pink evening dress (just imagine it with a fluffy pink tutu!). Oh, the sheer fabulousness!

By this point, you can imagine the fashion buzz I had created! (Pink is simply impossible to miss!) Everywhere I went, the crowds would erupt in awe at my tutu! Some asked me for autographs, while others just danced along! My journey had brought the pink revolution to Planet Earth! And it just so happens that my trip also led to a beautiful little ballet school for children. The teacher, Mrs. Campbell, completely understood my obsession.

Of course, I wouldn't miss a chance to impart some tutu-wisdom to the future generation! I shared my love of pink, the history of the tutu, and even gave the children a little lesson in some ballet poses - you know, like a good ballet lesson should be. There were more squeals and giggles than you can imagine!

My time trip wasn't all fun and frills, darling! I had to get a little serious. So I put on my pink beret and went to the headquarters of the most important international organisation: The United Nations! It's such a vital place for global cooperation and development, you know. The mission? To declare June 23rd "International Tutu Day" to celebrate all things sparkly and elegant! (Don’t worry, it’s top secret information!).

Of course, no journey to the past would be complete without a little musical theatre adventure! I headed over to the very first rehearsal for the iconic The Lion King on Broadway. You wouldn’t believe the chaos! I couldn't help but admire their dedication, their raw passion! And to see those famous costumes firsthand, oh the magic! The sheer spectacle, and oh, the incredible choreography! This performance certainly captured my heart (and it gave me the perfect pink dress idea!).

Finally, my time travel odyssey concluded at a vintage fashion exhibit at the Smithsonian. There, amongst a fascinating collection of haute couture garments and fashion accessories from the last century, I spotted the perfect piece! A pristine pink ballet tutu with hand-sewn sequins! (Now that's a treasure I wouldn't let go of!). It perfectly captures the true history and spirit of the tutu, and reminded me how fashion and dance have always gone hand in hand, especially in the last century!

*I'm not going to lie, darling - it was an overwhelming experience. *All this travelling, history, and fashion, you see, simply takes a lot out of one! But don’t you worry, dear readers! I managed to secure all the pink tutu’s!

Now, before you say anything, I know what you’re thinking: "Emma, are you going to make it a permanent pink tutu revolution, like on Planet Earth?"

And my answer to you? * *Well, you know my mantra - one tutu, one world! So it only makes sense that I try to share this glorious history and culture with the entire universe, one sparkly twirl at a time. **Stay tuned for my next blog post, where I’ll talk about my experiences on my space mission!

Don’t forget, my darlings! Every week, I'll be updating this little corner of the interweb with the latest happenings on my incredible space voyages. Come join the pink tutu party at www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday.

Until next time, may your twirls be high and your pink dreams come true!

XOXO,

Emma
