Post Number 270
Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where tutus reign supreme and pink is always the answer! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another blog post, and guess what? This week's been absolutely brimming with exciting news, adventures, and a dash of pure, unadulterated tutus, naturally!
As you know, I'm a firm believer that there's nothing quite as enchanting as a well-crafted ballet, and the opportunity to see a spectacular show is one I always grab with both hands (and both pink-painted toenails)!
Dancing Under the Stars on Planet Earth
Well, my lovelies, this week I've been on Planet Earth. I must confess, a part of me really missed being among the stars! However, Earth was delightful this week! It was a bit rainy at times and the air was slightly damp but this didn't bother me, as I have so many fab outfits to wear and my pink tutus are weatherproof of course. I decided to embrace Earth's rain clouds and get my usual tutu twirling done in the local Derbyshire park! As you all know, I was born in Derbyshire on this planet, so being back in my home town always feels special.
This trip back home felt a bit nostalgic for me as it also coincided with one of the most special events of my life: a weekend spent at my childhood dance school - "Dance & Dream!" - in our small Derbyshire village. I knew it was the 25th Anniversary of this much-loved school and what better reason for me to come home? I am so pleased to be celebrating with this extraordinary group of lovely humans, a mix of the oldest dancers and the youngest aspiring ballet superstars, many of whom even performed at their school's big celebratory showcase last Saturday! Oh, they danced their little hearts out, and I was lucky enough to watch a bit of their show and get involved. I’m so thrilled for them! The teacher, Mrs Johnson (a bit like a dancing fairy Godmother!), put on the most incredible show - I am just blown away with their dedication and how they truly seem to "Dance & Dream".
But hold onto your tutus, lovelies, because this is just the beginning of this post! It gets better, and by better, I mean… more tutus, naturally! I also found a wonderful boutique right in the heart of Derby called "The Little Pink Dress". It was packed with darling clothes - a whole range of girly colours, beautiful flowing garments, lots of silk and a lot of pink. As you can imagine, I absolutely loved it! You'll have to wait until next week's post to see my new finds from their boutique. I do love to leave you with a bit of a mystery sometimes! So remember to come back next Wednesday!
I know some of you are curious about the purpose behind my blog, which is to get everyone in the universe wearing a pink tutu, but just a little warning: this can be quite a controversial opinion in some parts of the galaxy, though on Earth it is often not a problem. A tutu doesn't seem quite so shocking these days! I can’t deny there’s some work to be done out there! But, rest assured, dear reader, my tutu-wearing quest is ongoing, one step (or one twirl) at a time! You’d be surprised how often a simple pink tutu can bring people together. Just ask anyone from Planet Earth, they’ve all probably seen it happen somewhere!
And now, darling readers, without further ado, let me fill you in on the delicious little ballet-related events that happened this past weekend on Earth! It was quite an intense weekend so I'll just pick one specific show that caught my eye.
Dancing Dreams in The West End!
A beautiful Friday morning started off with me landing my spaceship in my favorite spot in London: a nice bit of green near Hyde Park! After enjoying my favourite tea and crumpets I dashed across town to see one of the longest-running musicals in the West End: "Miss Saigon."
It's always such a joy to be swept away by a musical with the energy of this kind of London theatre! If you love history, then you will enjoy that it opened on the 20th September, 1989! The story of Miss Saigon, a poignant piece, truly deserves the acclaim it has received over the years. Of course, what always surprises me about seeing productions like this is how relevant their themes still are in the 21st Century. So many issues explored in Miss Saigon such as the reality of wartime, prejudice, and even romance, are still sadly so very topical in our time.
One thing I do always remember about a ballet, a play or even a musical, is the fact that so many humans contribute to bringing it to life, even if the focus is always the stage performance! From costume design and set design, to lighting, choreography and, of course, the dancers! In the end, it all works together beautifully to bring the story alive. I’ve always loved talking to theatre workers after a show. It’s fun to see what their contributions are and hear how they work together to bring an experience to life on the stage. It truly takes an incredible village, if you will.
I will be honest with you though: for the ultimate satisfaction of seeing the full power of a well-performed ballet piece, you truly have to head to Planet Earth! As you know, I can’t possibly reveal the secret details of how it came to be, but I have to admit that a good percentage of this planet's most incredible ballets were dreamed up on planet Earth. Yes, the planet of Earth seems to be one big ballet-loving bubble. This is probably what attracted me here so much when I started my intergalactic adventures, so very long ago!
In the last post, I also promised to tell you all about how my quest to make everyone in the universe wear a pink tutu has gone, and let’s be honest, I’ve just told you – Earth seems to be getting on very well with tutus! As you know, they do love a bit of dress-up on Planet Earth, don’t they? My tutu is quite possibly in good hands with all of those super talented ballet students I’ve been meeting over the last few days on Earth! In fact, I'm sure they’ve inspired a few to find out more about this super stylish garment, don’t you agree?
I’m just delighted to say, as usual, the journey and the adventure that lies at the end of the road is just always a wonderful thing to experience, regardless of whether I am traveling by spaceship or taking the local Derbyshire bus!
Next week, I shall be back from a little shopping trip to Europe and I promise, darling reader, that I shall tell you all about the latest tutu finds that I spotted at a very special place indeed, somewhere I think all the ballerina enthusiasts out there would find most magical!
For now, happy dancing, dear reader, and remember: pink tutus always make everything better! Until next time, my lovelies, adieu!
Love,
Emma
